Thomas "Tommy" Marshall is a member of Captain Lennox's Army Rangers team. After returning back to base, they are attacked by an unidentified inorganic enemy. They are separated from the rest of the men and are trying to get back homebase. 

Meanwhile, Tommy's younger brother, Jackson "Jack", is dealing with problems of his own with his best friend; Sam Witwicky. When the two of them realize that Sam's car is actually an alien robot and can drive itself. Not to mention, its not the only one in town. There are several, in fact. Two of them have actually tried to kill them. 

Tommy and Jack are fighting the same war on two different fronts. And it all goes to hell when they finally reunite with each other, under the wrong circumstances.

And all Jack can think about is the many possible ways that he will end up dead at the end of the day.
