الرواية تدور حول شخصية اسمه أسمر، شاب عادي يعيش حياةً عاديَّة و بسيطة ، وبينما يعيش حياته البسيطة، تغير حياته كثيرا عندما تلعب له حظوظ الحياة. يوم واحد، حصل على بعض الكتب السحرية من رجل عجوز، هذه الكتب السحرية تبين أنها مفتاحا لعالم الجن وما تحتويه من كائنات مُناسبة وغير عادية مثل الجن، العفاريت، القرائن وال مردة. ولكن سرعان ما ستظهر الصعاب والخفايا للباب بين أسمر و قرينته ، حيث يكتشف أسمر أن الخروج من ذلك العالم ليس هذه السهولة البسيطة كما تصور له الأمر في البداية. في هذه الحالة، يرتفع السؤال وهو لماذا اختار الرجل عجوز أسمر بالذات لتبدأ رحلته أيضاً، و لماذا كان خروجه من ذلك العالم صعباً؟ هل بإمكان أسمر الخروج من ذلك العالم أم سيظل أسير هذا المكان المليء بالخفايا؟ كل هذه الأسئلة وغيرها ستجيب عليها الرواية!
