It is commonly thought of as an invisible red string around the finger of those that are destined to meet one another in a certain situation as they are "their one true love", in other words, "Soulmates"

It usually appears for the first time when a person is 5-8 years old, and for 8 year old Evan Hansen, today was that day. this is basically just a sincerely three red soulmate AU because I needed it in my life.

Okay, so this is another soulmate AU. Surprise surprise. It's the soul string AU, where everyone has a magical string tied to their ring finger. The other end of the string is tied to the ring finger of their soulmate. Every time the two people are close, their soul strings will tense up and start dragging them towards each other. When they touch for the first time, the soul string will disappear until they kiss. If your soulmate is in really really bad emotional or physical pain, your soul string shows up black; just as a little bow around your finger. This story is loosely made for the AU, but it isn't a big part of the story. The mentions of the soul strings pop up sometimes, but that's not all they talk about.
