Dante Reyes never expected his first year at Diliman University to spiral into a dark, supernatural mystery. What begins as an ordinary first day turns sinister when a mysterious mark appears on his hand, slowly revealing its true nature-he is connected to the hidden realm of Biringan, the city of the Encantos, long believed to be a myth. Haunted by cryptic messages, elusive figures, and a secretive roommate, Alex, who knows more than he's letting on, Dante must unravel the secrets of his family's past.

As he digs deeper, he discovers that the mark is no ordinary tattoo-it is a symbol of power, an ancient bond that marks him as a key figure in the delicate balance between the human world and the world of the Encantos. But with his newfound connection comes danger. The Encanto Hunters are closing in, and Biringan's dark forces are stirring.

Caught between two worlds, Dante must choose-will he embrace his destiny as the protector of these ancient secrets, or will the darkness consume him?

In Marked by Encantos, the lines between reality and myth blur as Dante is drawn into a world of danger, magic, and betrayal, where every decision could mean the difference between life and death.

OPTIONED BY WATTPAD STUDIOS FOR PUBLISHING/MOVIE DEALS!!! Also approached by 108 Media, the studio that produced Eerie (check it out in Netflix). Winner of the Wattys 2020 Award in Horror/English "This book really hooks you with its intriguing premise. A super fun horror story rooted in Filipino Folklore, with a science thriller twist - think Jurassic Park meets It Follows." -----What the Wattys2020 Team said about Haunteds, Wattys2020 Winner in Horror category Plot: In 1974, the mysterious cult's mass kidnapping and ritualistic killing led to the summoning of the Shade-a paranormal entity of living shadow. Ever since then, starting in October in Bastillio-a city in the Philippines steeped in history and superstition-the Shade would be seen haunting twelve teenagers at night throughout the month, often resulting in their deaths. But the discovery of U.V. lights as a deterrent from the Shade led the government to establish a system to contain the Shade's threat. Fast forward to 2025, twenty years after the system had successfully prevented any more deaths, the media and global firestorm surrounding the phenomenon died down. So when sixteen-year-old Vergil Torres was identified as one of the twelve and was immediately brought to Biringan-the government shelter where haunteds like him would stay for the month-he was more excited than scared for his life. But the gruesome and inexplicable death of one of them during their stay in the supposedly safe house renews the horror of the Shade. Reluctant at first, Vergil, together with his friends and Major Coleman, decided to get to the bottom of the mystery, if they are to survive through the month.

According to folklore, obscure forces secretly live among us, shaping the natural world and influencing human affairs. Some call them spirits, others refer to them as guardians, and some even worship them as gods. But to the old and wise, those who understand what lies beyond this world, they are simply called "Anito." If you were to tell this tale to Makisig "Maki" Kagiwa, a 15-year-old high school student, he would dismiss it as nothing more than a silly superstition. Living in a bustling modern city, Maki views old beliefs as outdated stories with no place in reality. But his skepticism will be put to the test when he encounters the paranormal firsthand. What will he do when he realizes that the creatures and monsters from long-forgotten legends truly exist in the modern world? Will he become a believer before it's too late? Or will his doubts cost him dearly when he and his older brother find themselves hunted by otherworldly beings---creatures whose motives remain a deadly mystery? *** Out of nowhere, an ominous creature in a tailored suit lunged at me, claws swiping through the air. I stumbled backward to avoid the attack and lost my balance. The creature shrieked and dove toward me, but I managed to block its claws with my baseball bat. Face-to-face with this monstrosity, panic and exhaustion took hold. Its grotesque features triggered a primal terror I had never experienced before. I lay flat on the ground, clutching the bat like a lifeline. The other creatures seized the opportunity, racing toward me with murderous intent etched on their twisted faces. My blood ran cold as I saw them close in, clawing and slashing at me from all angles. A scream tore from my throat as something sharp punctured my stomach. My life flashed before my eyes, just as people always said it would in the face of death. I couldn't believe this was how my life would end---devoured by creatures wrapped in inscrutable mystery. *** Note: This story is written in English.
