The world of Equilibria was stuck in a long expansionist war between two superpower empires: The United Federation of Tachyon, a technologically advanced empire, and The Arcane Order of Seirion, a powerful magical empire. Their imperial quest to lead humanity toward a utopia of their design had left many who were caught in the fight suffering from death and destruction.

Such was a teenage boy, named Lorian Ashwood, who had witnessed his village become a battleground between the two superpower empires. However, his village was ultimately destroyed by a mysterious white ray of light coming down from the sky by an unknown party, jeopardizing the village and the fighting soldiers inside instantaneously. No one knows who unleashed that light ray, and the empires are afraid that it was the other side's secret weapon.

After the destruction of his village, Lorian obtained a Resolite-a rare white crystal capable of transforming into a powerful halberd. His acquisition of the most powerful Resolite in history made him a prime target, with both empires desperate to capture him.

To survive and uncover the truth behind his Resolite, Lorian allied with a group of airship aviators known as the Strife Striders. Together, they seek to discover the origin of the mysterious light ray that destroyed his home and unlock the secrets of Equilibria's past.

1 part Ongoing Mature
Gildersmoke is more than a city-it is a machine, grinding forward on gears of ambition, industry, and blood. Floating above it, Aethercrest's elite rule from their skyborne towers, while deep below, the Rust Docks and the Gutter fester with the discarded, the rebellious, and the forgotten. In the heart of it all lies The Ebon Mirage, a sanctuary of vice, power, and deception-where fortunes are won, secrets are gambled, and history is rewritten in shadows. But something ancient has stirred. When Nora Blackwood and Cass Dreymore take control of The Ebon Mirage, they find themselves entangled in a deadly game of power and prophecy. The discovery of the Eidolon Shard-a relic of impossible energy-turns Gildersmoke into a battlefield. Every faction, from the Ashgilt Syndicate's debt lords to House Valtieri's machine-masters, seeks to claim it. The Veilwardens whisper of the danger it poses, while rogue scholars speak of lost knowledge hidden in the city's depths. Yet, Gildersmoke is not the only player in this war. Across the world, great cities awaken to the storm brewing in Aethercrest. Varkhala, The Merchant-Kings' Jewel, where assassins wield weapons that never miss. Cauldrith, The City of Aetheric Glass, where time itself bends and knowledge comes at the cost of identity. Ironmere, The Titan's Anvil, where sentient machines whisper in the dark. Selvaris, The Blooming Labyrinth, where magitech and nature have merged into something... unnatural. Ebonreach, The City Beneath the Tides, where a relic capable of erasing history itself has resurfaced.
Engines of Alchemancy (The Alchemancer Book One) by scottmarlowe
24 parts Complete
After re-reading Engines of Alchemancy in preparation for writing the 3rd book in the series, I decided to post the entire book on Wattpad. It's a good story, and I'd love to have readers such as yourself give it a try. Engines of Alchemancy is the 1st book in The Alchemancer series. It's followed by The Nullification Engine and The Inversion Solution. You can find out more about The Alchemancer series and my other books here: https://www.scottmarlowe.com/page/the-alchemancer *** Infernal engines consume the world and only a sorcerer's apprentice who knows nothing about magic can stop them. The Alchemancer series begins. Chaos erupts in the Barony of Fallmere when a surprise elemental attack destroys Norwynne Keep. Aaron Shepherd and Shanna Bonnerman survive, but Shanna is soon lost in the fallout of the keep's destruction while Aaron is forced to flee for his life. Unbeknownst to Aaron, Shanna becomes a captive of the enemy who destroyed their home. This enemy, a savant who claims to follow the path of science, speaks of ancient, infernal devices and a quest to reclaim the greatest of them all. Certain the savant means to kill her, Shanna is instead surprised when she finds herself embarking upon the adventure of a lifetime. Meanwhile, only the worst of nightmares awaits Aaron. Pursued by dwarven raiders, mad sorcerers, and a host of demons who will not stop until he is dead, the only thing keeping him alive is his own wits and an eslar mercenary whose reputation as a killer might make him the worst threat of all. Though Aaron and Shanna travel different paths, their purposes align when they each learn of a mysterious device known as the Fifth Element. Shanna sees it as the final piece of the puzzle that is her destiny. To Aaron's logical mind, it is an impossible ambiguity. Whatever the answer, the Fifth Element draws them back together and into a final confrontation where science and sorcery will collide.
