Mistreated and malnourished, little Hiccup doesn't understand why most everyone on Berk hates him. Gobber notices the abuse and steps in, but things quickly spiral out of control and the only way to keep Hiccup safe is to smuggle him off of Berk and into the hands of their allies. Hiccup is soon adopted into another tribe and grows up discovering what having a true family is like, but the past never stays in the past, as he soon discovers when Berk reaches out to the famed Dragon Master for help. Will he help the tribe who wronged him or leave them to suffer? Only time will tell.

Hiccup, yearning for communication and not subjugation, ventures to the rumored Dragon Isles. There, he encounters a majestic Alpha dragon, Ignis. Hiccup undergoes three trials to prove his courage, respect, and understanding of dragons. He passes and is accepted by the dragons, learning their language, history, and customs. Hiccup forms close bonds with several dragons, including a young emerald dragon he helps heal. He feels a responsibility to share his knowledge and bridge the gap between humans and dragons. With a heavy heart, Hiccup returns to Berk. He faces skepticism and fear from the villagers, but his stories and Toothless's gentle nature plant seeds of doubt. Hiccup works tirelessly, teaching villagers about dragons and organizing controlled interactions. Years pass, and a new generation of Vikings grows up with a different understanding of dragons. The fear never truly vanishes, but it is tempered with respect. It's been a month since Dragons and Vikings were brought together, now the only thing left to do is train them. Its close to winter in Berk, putting everyone on edge for food. Hiccup, the chiefs son, also the one that brought dragons and Vikings together isn't worried about the snow at all. He's usually the one to take advantage of the snowy weather, going dragon sledding with Astrid and the gang. But when Hiccup, mysteriously falls ill with an unknown sickness, Stoik's worries for his survival in the cold grow. In hopes to cure his only son Stoik sets out to sea to find the right medicine leaving Hiccup in the constant care of Gobber and Astrid. When tragic strikes, and Hiccup is now left on his own, his chances of surviving become small.
