Amabilia Rinaldi wants absolutely nothing to do with the Eighth Domain. She ran for a reason. 

She's content with what she's created for herself in the Real World-her temporary job, temporary loves, temporary life. But after five years and a sudden series of reoccurring nightmares depicting her mother's death, Amabilia is forced to make a decision: return home to the scrutiny of her people or let her mother die without ever knowing why.

With great reluctance (and a lot of resistance) Amabilia's unexpected return home is met with confusion as she discovers that although her world may appear unchanged, below the lies and secrets is a society on the precipice of total downfall. With the aid of unlikely allies and well-intentioned old friends, Amabilia is left to mend the world she despises and uncover all that's been forgotten.
