Two years ago Callie and Marie did their last splatfest. Although Marie was the winner, the two cousins did not hold a grudge. Despite that, they began to drift apart as they both began developing solo careers. One day Marie was able to get a three day vacation and left for Calamari County. Callie on the other hand could not come because of an important meeting. The two planned to meet on the second day of Marie's vacation. However, danger was lurking in Octo Canyon. Agent 8 has panic inducing nightmares from when he was forced to fight Agent 3 underground. For some unknown reason, Agent 4 is the only one who can calm the Octoling. He succeeds, but gets trapped in deal he can't escape from. A few months later, a shadow starts terrorizing the land of Inkopolis. It strikes at night, it's blade cutting down everyone that gets in it's way. One night, four travelers gather to stop the shadow, and go out to fight it.
