The two cousins who used to fight over everything were now sitting side by side-getting married.

Mehroz sat silently, her eyes swollen from crying. She didn't look up.

Her voice was barely there.

Next to her, Rehan sat still. His white **kurta** was wrinkled, stained with blood. A fresh cut on his cheek, a bruise near his lip. He had fought, but for what? Even he didn't know.

His voice was rough but firm.

**"Qubool hai."** *(I accept.)*

**"Qubool hai."** *(I accept.)*

It was done. No one blessed them. No one smiled. The only sound was a pen scratching against paper.

The door opened. Mehroz's father stepped inside. His face was cold, his voice even colder.

**"Rehan, behtar hoga ki tum apni biwi ko lekar yahan se chale jao. Abhi. Isi waqt."**
*(Rehan, it would be better if you take your wife and leave. Right now. This very moment.)*
