Aj Maybank and Calliope Routledge were each others best friends. Wherever Callie was, Aj wasn't to far behind. Vice versa. There friendship started back in third grade. The brunette girl was getting bullied some rich kids until Aj showed up and made them run away. The blonde would always tease her and call himself her knight in shining armour and their friendship blossomed from there.

In a big group of people, the duo would always find themselves together never leaving each others sides, plus the blondes love language was physical contact. He would always have an arm wrapped around her shoulders, leaning his head on hers or holding hands. Callie never really liked physical touch but Aj was her only exception. It was also crystal clear that the two have feelings for each other but there was two things stopping them.
