Dear reader, this is not an easy story. It does not have joy. No happy ending. At no point is this a love story, and it should not be idolized as one.

Jack Hughes is hockey's golden boy, America's sweetheart - and a grieving husband with three kids who want to know how he met their mother.

What begins as a nostalgic recounting of a childhood love story quickly darkens into something more complicated. Jack tells them about Eva: his best friend, his first kiss, the girl who followed him to Michigan, to Jersey, to the edge of everything. The girl he married. The woman he buried.

But interspersed with Jack's charming, curated memories are the pages of Eva's diary. And Eva's truth? Isn't quite the same. In her words are the fractures - the gaslighting, the loneliness, the love that never stopped taking.

He said we were soulmates. But when someone loves you like that, it can break you.

Crossing the Line - Jack Hughes

15 parts Complete

Lumi Aho never wanted to cover the NHL All-Star Weekend-especially not when her older brother, Sebastian, is one of the league's biggest names. But when her network sends her to Florida, she plans to keep her head down, do her job, and avoid unnecessary drama. Jack Hughes has other plans. Charming, cocky, and too damn pretty for his own good, he's also Sebastian's on-ice rival-and apparently Lumi's new weakness. One interview turns into a conversation. One conversation turns into a kiss. And before the weekend ends, Jack and Lumi are trending for all the wrong reasons. Now the cameras are on, the league is watching, and her brother is ready to throw hands. But the real danger? Falling for someone she was never supposed to touch. After all, there are rules in hockey. And Jack Hughes has never been great at following them.
