Nicky was a very shy and quiet girl. She liked to keep to herself and didn't enjoy talking much. Her sister, Stella, was very different. Stella was popular and outgoing, a real social butterfly. Their family had just moved from California to Albany because their dad got a new job there. Stella was excited about the move and the new school. But Nicky felt worried and unhappy. She didn't want to leave her old home. The thought of starting over in a new place made her feel nervous and scared.

Nicky and Stella never really got along well. They were very different, and sometimes this caused fights between them. Stella had a problem with Nicky that always made her angry. Whenever Stella liked a boy, that boy would often notice Nicky instead. The boys would chase after Nicky and ignore Stella. This made Stella jealous and upset. She blamed Nicky, even though Nicky did not want to hurt her sister. Nicky just wanted to be left alone and didn't try to get attention from boys. But Stella could not see that.

At their new school in Albany, Nicky and Stella met a boy named Mckenzie Jordan. Mckenzie came from a very rich family. His family was well-known and very wealthy. He was very handsome and dressed neatly every day. Girls at the school liked him a lot. Many of them talked about him and wanted to be his girlfriend. Mckenzie knew this and enjoyed the attention. He liked to play with girls' feelings, making them confused and wanting him more.

Mckenzie was Stella's new target. She warned Nicky to stay away from him because she did not want nicky snatch him from her. But fate clearly had it's own story to tell.
