As a new year begins for Astra and her friends, they're all worried about the future. After a rough year, with shaky trust and suspicions running wild, they're not sure they can handle whatever might be next. N.E.W.T. level classes and schoolyard bullies pale in comparison to a tyrannical government and a growing network of terrorists that no one seems large enough to stop. On top of that, Wren's parents haven't contacted her once about anything, Zaria Hempsey-related or no.

Bigger problems soon arise, though. When nightmares become realities, for more than one member of the group, they're each left with little to stand on. The threat of betrayal by others is constant, but when your own mind can betray you, what's left?
