Rose O'Hare embarks on the adventure of her life when a spirit named Wispy possesses her favorite stuffed animal, Snickerdoodle the Alpaca. However, at a family reunion, things go awry when two of Rose's cousins become violent towards other family members, which scares her off in fear that she will be next to get harmed by the two individuals. Wispy takes Rose into another realm called the Otherworld, where it is nothing like Rose has ever seen in her life.

However, this adventure comes with a price. Through her journey, Rose hears of a terror organization known as the Black Cloaks, who blow up villages and have been slaughtering Wispy's kind to the point that Wispy is the only spiri that isn't in hiding. Along the way, Rose befriends many that help her and her companion on her adventure, from a minotaur flying an airship to a powerful village leader that is admired by many. But the fight against the Black Cloaks are the biggest challenge Rose must face without getting killed.
