Fifteen year--old Jessa is a Tartarean-mortals with special powers--accompanied with impressive ice abilities.

Just when Jessa thinks she's about to stay there until the end of her life, Crown Prince Casrian of Andalia confronts her and offers her a bargain she can't possibly pass up: Work for him in his Tartarean's Keep for a year in exchange for her freedom.
