An electronics engineer by training, I retired from that profession at age 50 and worked for almost 30 more years as a K-12 curriculum developer (mainly for math and science).  I retired again at 78. Writing science fiction has been a hobby for years. My other hobby is designing and building PakYak folding kayaks (see profile picture).

Listening to this it came to me that his "suitcase covered with rattlesnake hide" is crammed full of moldy lyrics and tattered manuscripts, and people run and hide to avoid hearing him recite them. Much like what some of us experience.
