In 2020, ONC took me from being a Wattpad reader to a Wattpad writer. That year, I made the Longlist. This year, I had two goals: to finish, and to make the Shortlist. Beyond thrilled to have achieved both [insert happy dance here].
Thank you to @OpenNovellaContest and all the ambassadors who make ONC possible. You've turned people like me into 'writers who finish things' and I'm forever grateful for that.
Huge and heartfelt congratulations to my fellow shortlisters and best of luck for the final round - may you soar!
Importantly, hugs and sympathy to the many fabulous writers who didn't make it this time around. I know that 'ouch' well. It sucks, but it doesn't define you or your writing. No one contest result ever will.

Phew. My little ONC thing ‘Get A Life’ is completed and submitted. It’s not perfect (I already found a very irritating typo in the final chapter) but it made it to Round 3 submission, and that’s the main thing. Very relieved, and a little bit proud.

Woot! Woot! Thrilled to see that my little ONC novella ‘Get A Life’ has made it through Round 2 of the Open Novella Contest!
Thank you to @OpenNovellaContest and all the ambassadors for the mammoth volunteer effort all of this must be.
I love ONC for the competition and the sense of community, but I love it most for the way it motivates me to write and prioritise writing - even when life suggests I should be doing other things.
The finish line is in sight and I am having a ball ❤️

You learn such random things writing a story. This weekend I discovered that the collective noun for a group of mechanics is either a 'torque' or a 'clutch'. Now you know it too. You're welcome.

@OnceUponASonder Hahahaha OMG, seriously. That's so funny. The mechanics definitely have it better. What's a group of butchers called? I'm guessing, a 'slaughter' hahaha. How about a group of cleaners? Are they a 'broom'? Hahaha My mind is going crazy thinking of all the possible names for groups of people. Hahaha. Great start to my day, thank you.❤

@donnaf1828 - a group of dermatologists is called a ‘rash’. I’m thinking mechanics have it better :p

Phew! Chapter 4 of 'Get A Life' is up. 8111 words in with about 12 hours until the Round 2 submission deadline - nothing like cutting it really, really fine!
