I love all sorts of genres. I'm a cross-genre kind of guy -- I like mixing genres together, like horror and science fiction. That's pretty awesome.

My favorite genre is science fiction. There's just so much you can do with it! I love that it allows you to do basically any kind of story, almost without limits. I love science fiction...

TheWriteGuy's Guide to Writing--Some Tips:

1. The "hook" is, in my opinion, probably the most important part of your story. If your opening doesn't grab people, you're going to have to work twice as hard. So think of a great hook!

2. Plot. Actually, this vies with number one. If you have no plot, you have no story. I have trouble with this, myself. I spend so much time world-building and creating my characters, that often, my plot falls by the wayside.

3. Characters vie equally with plot. If your characters are flat cardboard cutouts, no one will pay attention to them. Why? They're not "alive." They don't think. They don't "live" inside your story. Here's a quick test: If you can't imagine your characters living out their lives in whatever setting you've placed them in without your direct control (aka, on their own), your characters are not actually living. It's like the Sims. Give them "high" Free Will and your story will thrive.

4. A good sense of fun. Writing can be a frustrating task, and most of us understand this. In good stories, the ambition and enjoyment that the author puts into his/her stories will shine through. Love your work, or your work will never love you back. It shows, trust me.

5. Never stop writing. Even on the bad days, where you can't think of anything for a new story or a part of a story--and we ALL get this sometimes--just keep plugging away. Eventually it will become enjoyable again and you'll be right back in the game.
