I'm an author, music historian, and former lyric soprano born and raised outside Boston. After graduating from Harvard University and earning a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, I moved to San Francisco's East Bay where I live among the redwoods with my husband, our two young children, and our dog.

Using the pen name Emily Lindin, in 2013 I founded The UnSlut Project, an online community where survivors of sexual abuse find solidarity through personal story sharing. I posted my annotated middle school diary on Wattpad and found immense support from readers, who began sharing their own experiences and building momentum in the #MeToo movement. I'm the author of "UnSlut: A Diary and a Memoir" (2015) and the director of "UnSlut: A Documentary Film" (2016); both are critically acclaimed and currently available online, in bookstores, and at local libraries. I've advocated for survivors of sexual abuse on platforms such as ABC with Katie Couric, CNN, The Doctors, Al Jazeera America, NPR, at Amber Rose's SlutWalk in Los Angeles, and at countless high schools and universities around North America.
