❝ IT WAS A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY AND I WOULD HOPE THAT WHOEVER IS RESPONSIBLE WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. ❞ a typical response from a typical woman stricken with immeasurable grief (IS MY PAIN BEAUTIFUL ENOUGH FOR YOU MR MONTEZ?) ❝ BUT I HAVE HOPE THAT THEY WILL. ❞ there is a slight strengthening of her words, her tone leveling and rid of its usual cadence. the consequences of a subtle change may meet with her eventually but for now, all there is is the heat under her skin. she didn’t know what infuriated her more, his feigned ignorance or the presumption of her own. (I SEE YOU FOR WHO YOU ARE. YOU’RE A DETESTABLE MAN, MR MONTEZ. A DETESTABLE, PREDICTABLE, LITTLE MAN)

❝ I ONLY KNOW WHAT I’VE BEEN TOLD, WHICH IS VERY LITTLE. I HOPE YOU CAN FORGIVE ME. ❞ she skims through the pages again and shuts her eyes suddenly, realizing she had temporarily drifted off. this would be the second time she has gone through the same row, making her efforts to calm her nerves more likely to be noticed. her head turns slightly to see if he is still looking and upon discovering that he is she offers him a forced smile before returning to the task (stop staring at me will you!). she quickly traces a finger over each of the documents, eyes growing wider and wider before she decides to choose one at random, raising her brows and promptly closing it shut with her free hand to signal that she had “found” what she was looking for.

she fully turns to face him again, with the curled ends of her hair falling gently against her shoulders.

ROSALIND TAYLOR HAS A NATURAL RHYTHM, a grace that flows all around her like the springtime scent of her perfume. the way she moves away from the cabinet is a dance in itself, a swan gliding over the surface of the lake but contrary to the belief of her opposition she is aware of what lurks beneath. she could even make sadness look beautiful (because that is all i am to you, that is all you see)

❝ I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW SUCH A TERRIBLE THING COULD HAVE HAPPENED, OR WHY IT DID FOR THAT MATTER. I THINK ABOUT THAT NIGHT OFTEN, VERY OFTEN… AND AS MUCH AS I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED EXACTLY I- I DON’T. I DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED MR MONTEZ…❞ (I SEEM TO NOT KNOW MANY THINGS, HAVEN’T YOU HEARD?). her eyes are now wide and dewy following a few rapid blinks, dark eyelashes long and fluttering. her lips press together for a moment before releasing and she struggles to meet his eyes. there is a slight avoidance to grow nearer in fear that he could sense her nervousness, though that is not the only feeling that grows greater with the passing of time.

SHE OPENS UP THE FIRST SHELF AND BEGINS TO REORGANIZE ITS CONTENTS TO KEEP HERSELF “OCCUPIED”. to her horror, the contents have already been organized. it only takes a moment for her to continue the task despite this (oh how terribly silly this is… he must be staring at me now with those dark eyes of his, i just know it. what others might find attractive in him makes my stomach turn. he looks at a woman the way he would look at a wounded animal. it must satisfy him to have the choice of either healing it or walking away, which makes me wonder how many times he’s done the latter)

❝ OH, I DON’T EVEN WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT. ❞ it is a polite dismissal, with its words spoken just above the volume of a whisper. she sighs to herself, hopelessly and ever so delicate, partly to lead him astray but mostly to suppress the ache she feels growing in her chest once again. it always revisits her in ways she least expects it to, arriving as a cruel reminder of all the things that went unspoken (he didn’t deserve this and perhaps i need to come to terms with the fact that neither did i. we didn’t deserve to be reduced to their collateral damage. one of us no longer has a voice to speak and the other is expected to remain silent. for now i must do what i am expected to do. for now, i must swallow my resentment like i’ve done many times before. why does it feel so difficult to do so now?)

"NO, no no.. i really can't take this! it'll weigh on my conscious like a rock!" jiwon nudges the white box away from her. ( it /probably/ CRAZY expensive - costing more than her life, she bets. )

"i haven't done anything to deserve this!" she shakes her head furiously, hands retracting to her side in an attempt to stall the exchange.

"you can start now! having a refund policy - take backsies!"

“NONSENSE. SURELY YOUR MOTHER WILL APPRECIATE SEEING HER DAUGHTER’S SMILING FACE AFTER SHE RETURNS HOME WITH A WELL DESERVED GIFT IN HAND.”it is a humorous attempt to persuade her to take the white box that she held before her, requiring both hands to secure it in place (it is much larger than a simple exchange, but she was never the kind of woman to settle for giving someone anything less than what they are worth).

“BESIDES, I HAVE A NO REFUND POLICY DEAR, SO YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO TAKE IT.”
