Happy AAPI month!

AAPI month stands for Asian American Pacific Islander month. In May, we celebrate the accomplishments, existence, heritage, and contributions of Asians & Pacific Islanders in the US specifically. Please take time to educate yourself about not only the systematic racism we face but also our history and culture. While our people have to deal with oppression and institutionalized racism every day, we can still celebrate the joy and beauty of our diverse cultures.

          Key things to remember:
--> Asia does not = East Asia. Many times South Asians, Central Asians, Southeast Asians, West Asians, and indigenous communities in Asia get ignored because of the larger amount of representation East Asians get in the media. Remember the term "Asians" is inclusive and diverse.
--> Different does not = bad. Remember that when you criticize us for eating cultural foods that aren't commonly seen in the West, such as pigeon, frog legs, cow tongue, etc.
--> STOP fetishizing Asians. This goes for those of you who are white af and still insist on putting your wattpad name/discord handle/whatever as "suki" or "hikari" or some Asian name you think sounds cute. It's not cute. You cannot take the appealing parts of our culture and exclude those that are less appealing to the Western majority.

          Educate yourself, friends, and family!

@Darkheart277 You're absolutely right that it's a huge issue that not many are super aware of, unfortunately. To be perfectly honest, I don’t know of any, and I’d be surprised if any exist…overtourism is a hard problem to fight as an NGO (if you’re trying to fight it head on) because its effects are vague and broad. But if you want to support local Hawaiians in their struggle against this issue, all you gotta do is think more specifically. What are some of the effects of overtourism? Environmental detriments are the first thing that come to my mind. So maybe look for a local environmental organization. Or think of another specific aspect of the issue (the Hawaiian water shortage crisis for example) and look for an organization that fights that.

@skysinner17 I think it’d also be a good time to spread awareness of the issue of overtourism in Asia and Oceania, most espiecially Hawai‘i, but I’ve been struggling to find charities I can donate to help solve the issue. Do you know of any?
