The Room

Part 1

The sinking feeling of falling into the chasm of your mind is a part of a normal Tuesday morning.

I sit and listen as my sister talks about her marriage, a cup of chamomile in one hand, her other hand on her swollen stomach. Her blonde hair bounces wildly in a loose ponytail as she jabbers on animatedly.

Meanwhile, I look out the window, listening, but only to her voice. It calms me.

Movies always say that the worst part of being crazy is not being able to function in society.

We can function. Just not with you.

Movies make it look like losing our autonomy in that society is the worst part about being crazy. Also not true.

The worst part, and everyone seems to forget this, is being crazy. Most people believe that crazy people don't know that they are crazy.

They're wrong.
