"Stop moaning Amy we have to go to school." commented Charlotte as she was walking to school with her best friend Amy.
"But it's so boring!" Amy exclaimed, while she chomped her breakfast bar. Charlotte laughed.
"What's so funny?" asked Amy.
"You're the one that has to go to school the most! Your grades are absolutely terrible!".
"Hey!"
"You have to admit it!"
"Fine. I still don't want to go to school though.".
Both Amy and Charlotte burst out laughing. After all, Amy's grades were awful. Eventually, Charlotte and her friend got to school, and as soon as they got in their classroom, they both got a telling off by their teacher (Mrs. Green) for being late.
"Now go and take your seats before I give you both detention!" she exclaimed angrily. Obediently, they took their seats.
Once school was over, Charlotte and Amy went home, and Amy went round to Charlotte's house as they were next-door neighbours. Naturally, Amy let herself into Charlotte's nicely decorated room.
"Hey!" said Charlotte while laughing.
"What? I go here all the time!" she said joyfully.
They both sat on the colourful bed and cheerfully chatted with each over about things that most 15 year old girls talk about after a long day of school.
Charlotte (although everyone called her Lottie) was a tall, rather pretty young lady with dazzling green eyes that came with long, silky brown hair. She was a happy and adventurous girl who always knew the answer, whether it was a maths question or a extremely difficult riddle. Amy was a rather short, beautiful lady with stunning brown eyes and short, gorgeous ginger hair. She was a cheerful and curious girl who always saw the best in everyone. Amy was not the best at school work although she always tried her hardest. They had both been best friends since they were five, when they Charlotte moved to her house and met her lovely neighbour.
While Amy was in the middle of telling Charlotte that she was going to do terrible on the next test, Charlotte pointed to a corner in her room and curiously asked, "Why is there a door as small as that in my room?"
"I don't know, and why are you asking me? Ask your mum." Amy replied.
"I can't. She's doing work and I'm not allowed to disturb her." was Charlottes response.
"What about your dad?"
"He's in the shed, and I'm not allowed in there because his inventions can be dangerous."
Amy thought for a moment and then suggested, "Why don't we just go in there ourselves and find out."
At first Charlotte agreed, but then she responded, "How will we fit in there?"
"We can crawl."
"Ok then. I'll go first."
"I'll be right behind you"
Both of the girls crawled into the small door one after the other.
Amy and Charlotte were next to each over standing up straight as the tunnel the door lead them to got larger. Finally, the tunnel stopped and they saw an incredibly long and wide staircase going down underground. "Come on. Follow me!" Amy confidently shouted. Her excited voice loudly echoed around the tunnel. "Are you sure we should do this?" Charlotte whispered anxiously.
"Come on Lottie, what's the worst that could happen?" After Charlotte agreed that she would, they both went down the incredibly long stairs. As the staircase was so long, it took them at least 10 minutes to get to the bottom.
After a while, they reached the bottom of the large staircase, and got a shock with what they saw...
It was a large room, with filthy bits of furniture and a tiny bed in the corner. Sitting on the miniature bed, was a tall teenage boy who both Amy and Charlotte recognised.
"Josh?" Charlotte whispered, with quivering lips.
"Is it really you?" Amy asked, with a tear falling from her cheek.
"Great to see you." the boy answered, nearly in tears.
Josh, Charlotte and Amy used to be best friends, that is, before he ran away. It happened a year back from then, when they were all walking home together and laughing. Amy and Charlotte had waved goodbye to Josh when he took the turn back to his house, a few blocks away from the girls road. The next morning, he didn't go to school, which was very unlike him. When the girls got into class, the teacher announced that he had ran away and asked if anyone had seen him. Nobody had. He was gone for an entire year. But now they had found him.
Charlotte and Amy ran at full speed to go and hug him and he hugged them back. They wanted the hug to last forever, but of course it didn't. It never does. "What happened, that night?" questioned Charlotte, anxiously.
"What night?" answered Josh.
Charlotte started to get angry. "Don't pretend you don't remember. The night you ran away. You left everyone behind. Your family, your school, us!"
"Lottie, you don't understand-"
"Oh, I think I understand perfectly well!" Charlotte cut in.
"Listen to me!" Josh loudly commanded.
Silence. Josh continued, "There was a reason I ran away. I was confused. I lay on my bed, and thought about life. Oh, how sick I was of people telling me I couldn't do anything. Of course, I knew I could. That night, after an hour of thoughts, I decided to run away. My bags were packed, and I was dressed, so I set out onto the streets. I was planning to go somewhere new, where I could have a fresh start. I didn't exactly know where I was going, so I took random turns, and walked on random roads. It was 03:45 in the morning when I realised what I had done. I was so anxious, and forgot the way back. I was lost for a long, long time, living in a cabin I found. It was in great shape, and no people lived there. Fortunately, there was a comfy bed, and lots of food. One day, I went for a walk, and tried to find my way back to my old house, as always. That's when I found your house. I climbed over the back garden gate, and the house door was open. After I stole some equipment from the shed, I found this in your bedroom."
After Josh's long speech, Charlotte and Amy didn't talk, just hugged him for a second time.
The first thing Charlotte, Amy and Josh did after he was found, was go down to her parents and tell them about what happened. "Charlotte! You know you're not to supposed to disturb me while I'm working."
"I'm sorry mum, it's just..." Charlotte stated, as Amy brought Josh forward.
"Josh!"
"Nice to see you." He told Charlotte's parents the story of why he ran away and what he did, and they immediately called his parents.
"I was just going to build a wardrobe in your bedroom, I didn't know this would happen!" Charlotte's dad exclaimed. The police were notified, and everyone was forgiven and happy.
