How Draco came to love Hermione

*September 1990.

Potions class.*

Professor Snape is testing Harry Potter. Hermione Granger's hand is high in the air above her head. All the Slytherins laugh as Harry cannot answer the Professor's questions. Draco Malfoy laughs with them, but reluctantly. He was brought up to be cold, mocking, mean... But secretly, he admires Harry. He thinks he's very brave. He hates having to hang out with Crabbe and Goyle. He does it because his father tells him to... No, more like orders him to. When Harry suggests that the Professor should question Hermione, he laughs inwardly with the others. And when Hermione answers correctly, he is amazed. He begins to question the principles his father taught him about Muggles. Professor Snape then takes points off Hermione for interrupting him. Draco doesn't think it's fair of course, but he is not in a good position to say anything, as a Malfoy.

*November 1991

Slytherin 2nd year dormitories. *

Everyone is asleep. Everyone except for one boy. A boy named Draco Malfoy. This boy, when he had checked that all his classmates were asleep, got up and took a bottle from his bedside table drawer - Invisibility Potion

He drank it all and walked out into the hallway, unseen. He made his way to the hospital wing. He entered silently, luckily the nurse had already gone to bed. Draco sat down next to a girl with curly brown hair and eyes. He said to her:

"Hermione. I'm really sorry. Really, really sorry. I can't do anything, my father is always watching me. I swear I have nothing to do with the Slytherin heir. I hope you wake up soon."

He walked back in silence and went to bed without anyone seeing him.

*July 1992

Malfoy Manor*

Draco was telling his mother how amazing Hermione and her friends were when they heard Lucius come in.

"There's your father. If you don't want a week of Doloris and lectures about how Purebloods are superior and such, I suggest you don't tell him everything you just told me."

*December 1993

Hogwarts Hall

Everyone is gathered around the stairs. One person is missing and her date is waiting. It's Viktor Krum. Pansy Parkinson is getting impatient at her partner's arm. Draco Malfoy looks disgusted with his date who is clinging to his arm. As Hermione comes down the stairs:

"Wow. I wish I could... No, I can't! Draco thought.

*June 1994

Umbridge's office*

"I hope she doesn't notice my shaking hands. How I'd love to turn her around and kiss her, finally apologize..."

Draco holds Hermione tightly, but only because he values life. Even though, with a father like his...

*June 1995

Hogwarts Astronomy Tower*

"Why am I doing this?

- So I don't die.

- But if Hermione were here...

- But she's not here!

- I'll do anything for her!

- Even die?"

He feels his aunt's breath on his shoulder. If he could, he'd throw his fist at her on her horrible face and run away. He sees his arms shaking and his wand dropping. He then sees his saviour somehow arrive:

"Avada Kedavra!"

Snape looks appalled at what he's done, and Draco understands him perfectly. But you can't change the past, you can only mourn and regret your actions.

*December 1996

Draco Malfoy's room.

"Aaaaaaaaah !!!!!! Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Please, I beg you! Stop !!!!!!!"

Draco's room is just above the sitting room. He can hear his aunt laughing maniacally.

"Draco? Are you alright?

- No. Mother, hold me back.

- From what?

- From tearing her fu****g face off...!"

*December 1997

Christmas Ball

Hogwarts Halls*

- All the students who chose not to pass their 7th year again have come for the occasion

- It's a masked ball.

Draco Malfoy is walking through the corridors of Hogwarts. He has deserted the ballroom and his date, Pansy Parkinson. He needs some air. At the corner of a corridor, he hears muffled crying. He walks over and finds Hermione Granger sitting on the floor, her cheeks covered in tears. To his own surprise, he approaches. He sits quietly beside her.

" May I ask why you're like this, he says as naturally as possible, his heart beating like mad.

- I- Snif- my boyfriend- Snif- just broke up- Snif- with me- Snif snif.

- Who is it? Let me give him a good slap.

- It's Ronald Weasley. "

Draco stands up and sees Ron coming out of the ballroom hand in hand with... Lavender! He starts walking in their direction.

"Please...," He turns around, "Stay with me."

Draco sits back down beside the beautiful girl. He then puts his arm around her shoulders and she leans against him. He shudders. If she knew that he was her worst enemy...

A slow dance begins in the great hall. Draco stands up and takes Hermione's hand:

"May I ask you to dance with me ?"

Hermione stands up and he pulls her to him. They start to dance. Hermione asks in a whisper:

"Who are you?

- Isn't the whole idea of this masked ball to dance with strangers in the first place?", Draco replies.

The last thing she needs is to know it's him! Draco, no longer able to refrain, takes possession of the girl's lips.

When they part, the young man runs away, upset. In the corridor, Hermione leans against the wall and walked slowly towards her dormitory. She too is upset. She is in love with a stranger...

* April 1998

Hog's Head *

Hermione is sitting nervously at a table. She sent a letter to her mysterious lover of the ball. She hopes that he will come. She does not feel very comfortable in this pub, but there is less risk that somebody recognizes them. That is, if he comes...

A few minutes later, Draco Malfoy enters the bar. To her surprise, he walks directly towards her. As a slow music starts, he says:

" May I ask you to dance with me ?"

Hermione gasps. Draco takes her hand and pulls her to him. He then asks:

" Can I tell you a secret?

- O-of course!"

He is so close to her that she can feel his breath against her ear.

" I love you"
