JUDE HARDING was eleven years old when she finally felt as if her life was perfect. She'd made new friends that she'd never had back at home, as well as meeting new faces and finally seeing the world for what it was rather than what her parents had made her believe it to be. They'd always said that trusting people and hoping for the best would only disappoint you in the end, but Jude was naive and never took their word for it. She saw kind faces and adventurous minds, there was nothing but pure joy in the expressions of those around her, how could she possibly believe that her parents were being truthful?
AT FOURTEEN Jude noticed that everyone had begun to change. They were growing up and everything was different. Their brains were changing and they all wanted different things. They weren't kids anymore and life wasn't easy. They had to work harder and everything seemed to be falling apart. Nothing lasted forever but Jude desperately wanted to believe that it would. The more time went on, the more Jude wound up punching herself in the face with every attempt at keeping life good, she'd only wished she would've listened to her parents when they told her she would only disappoint herself.
