Free

She wanted to be free

She wanted to believe in freedom

She wanted to believe in an "after"

And so he promised her that gentle freedom

But at what sacrifice would she be set free?

Because everything has a cost

Death in exchange for life

Malice in exchange for passion

Imprisonment in exchange for freedom

But the reaper saw the price that must be paid,

And so he made him pay in exchange for her freedom

The reaper made him pay in the form of blissful death

But that brought another cost,

Because she stopped believing in freedom.

She stopped believing in an "after"

Because without him, she would never want to be free

Ariella's POV

I knew he was bad for me.

I knew he would destroy me.

I knew he was poison for my soul.

I knew that he was like a cigarette. I was addicted to the air and feeling that only he could give me.

But he was bad for me.

He was my air but destroying my lungs.

I knew that I would get hurt.

But why am I still heartbroken? Why did I think that I actually could get my happily ever after? I was naive and stupid.

And I loved him.

When I knew that I shouldn't...I loved him.

I couldn't think anymore. I couldn't even function.

It was supposed to be me.

Now all I feel is pain.

3rd Person POV

Ariella Lilac Volkov remained unmoving, numb, against the chair. Eyes barely opened in the direction of where the laptop screen once was, staring aimlessly. Her skin deathly pale, as shallow breaths came out of her, like ice air.

She had gone into shock the moment the laptop screen went blank.

Her body was immobile, almost corpse-like. If the minimal rise and fall of her chest weren't visible, then she would've looked dead.

Malakai was right.

He had broken the daughter just how he had broken the father.

Albeit, it was a bit more intense.

But why wasn't he satisfied?

He had killed his brother who was always unintentionally one-upping him, just like he always wanted. He had gotten the family he always wanted. The lovely little wife by his side and the well-mannered daughter. He had gotten all of it.
