"Hurry, hurry get inside!" The woman croaked. One by one shutters and doors closed shut. Children were rushed inside with haste. Not even guards were on patrol. Not night, because as of tonight there will be a blood moon. On Halloween night... Oh what more could a mage ask for! Everyone was inside huddled under the covers and probably shaking with fear. I mean who could blame them after all, the blood moon is known to carry unfortunate omens...I drum my hands over the smooth tombstone. I look over the engraved letters."Here lies Robert a loving husband and cherished father." I scuffed. Every one of their graves engraved in letters of their youth and purity. I often wonder if people lie to themselves because they can't accept the truth? Or because of the labels given? What is it that gives not only a man but a human! The right to bypass anything! It's almost like that label defies anything against it! A loving husband? He loves his wife so much that he chases after other women. He steals from them too, after he's slept with them. And his children? (The only one he claimed to have fathered). He doesn't provide more than a title for them to live on! Since he was human and loyal to the church. He's pure, innocent and can do no wrong! But the condemned, if their lucky enough they will have their remains buried rather than burned. The cycle is everlasting and continues...At least until today, after tonight mages will rule the godforsaken village! Mages will finally be set free and be able to rise to their true potential! I walk past the cemetery. Walking near the separate space of land. Where the condemned were given stones if they were lucky. I squatted down on the soft dirt. There were at least five stones. But I know they're more than five condemned souls. A red glow shines above the cemetery casting its light on every part in sight. It's time...I cross my legs and balance on them. I close my eyes letting the harsh and cold wind brush against my face. The howl of the wind revealed faint whispers. A smile creeps upon my face, it's them. I can hear them, the voices of the condemned. I hold my hands out in taking the flow of magic energy. The blood moon is enhancing my abilities. Magic coerces through my veins, feeling stronger and more powerful than before. It was a strong source of energy that overwhelms me for a moment. The weight of the ground no longer felt beneath me. Wind whipped around me furiously and relentlessly. Then I heard a giggle spur out of nowhere. I recognized the voice, suddenly losing my focus; I dropped to the ground instantly. My eyes jolted open, the impact on my body wasn't as hard. I guess I wasn't very high off the ground...I ignore the stabbing pains in my body and face the owner of the voice. I snap my head glaring at Kyra, Jasper, and of course...Ethan.
"Well, well what's a girl like you doing here at this time of day?" She snickers with that spine chilling voice of hers. Before I could say anything, Ethan steps in.
"It's not very wise to be out when it's dark. You never know what predators could be lurking?" He said boring his eyes into mine, flashing a smug smirk at me. I huffed out a breath are they just going to stand their the whole time? Or do they want something?
"Are you finished?" I rolled my eyes. "Because I have work to attend to."
"Oh please, don't let us distract you from whatever it is you're doing." Jasper challenged. Hahahahaha. Oh, what fools! If they only knew the true potential of a blood moon! They want to see how powerful I am? Why not give them a show? A manic laughter goes off in the back of my head. I resume casting the spell. Since I now have enough power to cast it. I close my eyes and concentrate on the mages energy. I reach my hand out, pressing it firmly against the ground. I grab a handful of dirt and crumble it through my hands. I was lifted once again, a force of blood moon energy hovers over me.
"I call forth those spirits, Let their souls live once again! Let their bodies move as they once did before! Allow them to roam the earth! Let them rise from the very ground!"
When I opened my eyes Kyra, Jasper and Ethan moved slightly from the spot they were standing. Jasper flinched at the thumping sound underneath. I smirked, Ethan gulped as Kyra glared at me.
"What did you do?" She shrieked. I smirked again. She gritted her teeth. Jasper tapped her arm repetitively. She spun around to meet his gaze. The thumping became heavier and louder. A hand clawed its way out from the ground. Jasper jolted. Another hand broke free, carrying an arm and torso along. Heads and hands popped out in every available spot, there was to offer. Once I was sure that all of them had been risen, I stood in the middle of them. Their skins had an off color white tinged with green. There were patches of ripped off flesh all over their bodies. Along with other scars and scratches... How peculiar, the spell never mentioned them looking like corpses! Sigh, I suppose that will do...The three frightened demons stood there huddled together. I smirk then turn my attention back to the corpses.
"Hello mages, you're probably wondering why I have awoken you from you eternal slumber. You are free, ridden from this awful torment that you've been put your through. As you're caster, and savior...You are obliged to do whatever your heart's desire. All I have is one request." My lighthearted tone morphs into a cold and dark one. "Make. them. pay. Tonight, will mark the first day of a new era. A new era rid of disgusting mortals. Leaving the mages to rightfully rule! Burn down every building in sight! And show humans the true potential of a mage!" Silence...Nothing? This entire moment nothing has been said? A snarl erupts from one nearby mage. What, did I somehow manage to summon every deaf and dumb mage! (Dumb meant mute back then, not an insult!) The mage lunges toward me. Ahh! Before I can scold him. He tilts his neck at me, a loud crack crackled. His head hangs sideways. His lifeless eyes glared at me as he slowly rises his arm. I look around me and see that others have joined along? Growl and snarls are emitted from the others. "B-back off! All of you!" I stutter. What's the matter with them? They keep moving in closer, my throat suddenly feel parched? I swallow hard, nausea gnaws at my stomach. I hand lashes out at me! My feet take off leading me far away from them. I search around for a place to hide, the snarls and growls are emitted louder. I pedal my feet harder on the ground. I spot an abandoned house, I sprint toward the house. I hide inside watching the mages run past. I release a sigh I didn't even know I was holding. The back door creaks, I jolt. I creep farther into the shadows. Ethan's head pops out from the doorway. I let out a groan, he meets my murderous glare. "Can't you find somewhere else to hide!" I whisper.
"Well if you hadn't noticed, there are dead mages roaming around trying to eat my flesh!" He shoots back.
"Well are there flesh eating mages around now?"
"Well.." He stammers. You're the one who casted this! So you'll be able to reverse it!" I scoff. Yes I wanted them alive but fully alive! How can they cast magic and burn down houses! All they do now is growl and loom! I guess they could cause terror...But I can't command them!
"What makes you think that I-" Kyra and Jasper slide in. Through the same back door!
"What! Why are you two here!" My voice starts to become gradually louder.
"We're hiding?" Kyra shrugs off.
"Find your own abandoned house! " The back door creaks open. We all turn to each other. I gulp. If that door doesn't close they will be able to find us! I slowly walk toward the swinging door. I press my hand against it and shut it closed. I hold my hand on my heart. When I turn around three faces jump out right in front of me! I flinch back.
"Gah! You imbeciles! At this rate you've probably led them right to me!" I whisper. A croak comes from one of the floor boards.
"Did you hear that?" Jasper whispers.
"It's nothing but the wind." Kyra snaps. Bang!
"Was that the wind also?" Jasper mocks. Bang! Bang! Bang! I stand in place searching for the reason for the noise. Snap! Splinters of wood fall through revealing a large hole. And the looming corpses! I bolt out of there running aimlessly. My feet pelted against the croaky floor. Following in sync with the thud of my thudding heart. I stop, nearly hitting a wall. I turn behind me, facing Jasper, Kyra and Ethan. I look to the left and see a hoard approaching. I turn to the right and see another hoard! I push past the three imbeciles. No use, another hoard awaits me! Urgh! My heart thuds against my chest. Becoming louder and louder with each moment. My stomach churns, twisting in tight knots. What do I do theyre closing in! I can't die alongside the demons! Snap! The hoard gravitates toward us moving slowly. Snap! Where is that noise coming from? Snap! The hoard on the left side looms over. SNAP! The hoards moved close enough so that we were left with no choice, but be huddled in. SNAP! I jolt from the snapping that was louder and heavier? SNAP! The weight of the ground became lighter and lighter. Leaving nothing but a weightless floor? My feet slipped through! I looked down to find that I'm now in midair! "AHHHHHH!" My weightless body dangles in the air. Slowly drifting farther and farther down the black ibis. I hit the ground forcefully onto the rubble of cobble. Ow! Ow! I was about to attempt to lessen the pain with a bit of magic. But then I regained my senses, demons... If they sense any of my magic they'll source me. As I say that, Kyra motions over to Ethan. Who's lying there on the rubble. Is he dead? Please be dead...
"Ethan!" Jasper shook him trying to wake him up.
"Can you sense anything?" Kyra said to me. I'm not close enough... I let out a long sigh and walked over. Ethan lies there with his eyes closed.
I looked at him, unleashing a bit of magic. A smirk spread across his face. I continue to carry on this charade. I then swing my leg back and kick him in the stomach. He responds with a grunt and rolls over. Kyra and Jasper laugh so hard they are wheezing. URGH! How could this situation get any worse? I brush off their irritating behavior. Those corpses should be trailing us by now...
