Matilda Shoupe was the epitome of walking sunshine— always radiating warmth through her infectious smiles and kind words. She was a girl whose kindness knew no bounds, always immersing herself in the pages of a book or collecting seashells along the beach. Preferring to remain unnoticed, she was the type of girl who could easily blend into the background.

Unfortunately for her, Rafe Cameron and Charlie Hudson as her friends— meant being unnoticeable was near impossible. It was like having two devils perched on the shoulders of an angel.  The two boys brought beautiful chaos into her seemingly perfect kook life.

And life wasn't about to get any easier, not with JJ Maybank working for her father and a group of teenagers starting an ongoing treasure hunt— ultimately testing friendships, family ties, and the resilience of young hearts.

Who is about to jump ship and venture into uncharted waters across 'enemy' lines?

OR..

Matilda Shoupe and Rafe Cameron had been best friends for nearly a decade.  Their friendship worked because they followed a set of rules meticulously crafted by their 14 and 15-year-old selves.

The list goes as followed:

    1. Never keep secrets from one another.
    2. Do not hook up with the other's friends.
    3. Friends do not kiss.
    4. First point of contact when we are upset is each other.
    5. Never be seen with a Pogue. In any shape or form.
    6. Never take Sarah's side in an argument.
    7. Always protect one another.
    8. Never take our frustrations out on each other.
    9. Never break a pinky promise.
   10. Love each other no matter what.

Three years later, and it was safe to say that both Matilda and Rafe had broken their own rules.
