Can You Hear Me?

I didn't know how you did it,

when you would look me in the eye

and say those three little words,

that will forever be imprinted in my mind

Just as I thought things were getting better,

something went wrong

now, for quite long

Your blue eyes didn't have its usual sparkle

and you looked a little paler.

But other than that you looked the same,

as usual

All of a sudden,

things started to happen.

You didn't even bother to say goodbye,

before you walked out of my life

One day, when I did bother

to check my mailbox,

there was a small brown letter

There it wrote my name so big,

I couldn't help but feel nervous and sick.

I recognized the handwriting.

And with shaky hands, I opened it.

Dear Emily,

by the time you read this letter,

I might be gone...

Forever.

I didn't want to be your burden,

or let you worry.

So by the time I got this cancer,

I needed to leave.

I know it is sudden,

and you are broken.

But please know that I never meant to hurt you,

and that this will never change how much I love you.

Go find someone,

someone better than me.

Live the life you've always wanted.

Forget all of this.

I hope you'll understand,

all this pain.

I know I said this before,

but I want to, again.

I love you.

I didn't need to see his name,

to know whom it was who sent,

because now that the puzzle is fixed,

it all made sense.

No one can ever take your place,

for this is the truth.

If you can hear me,

"I love you too."
