From the day she was born, Dylan Bates lived a life made of bubble wrap. A house atop the highest hill in the Outer Banks, a loving family respected by even the highest ranking members of society, and parties that the dwellers living on the other side of the island could only dream of having were things the young girl began to take for granted, the thought never once crossing her mind that she may one day have to live without them.
However, when certain secrets come to light, popping the bubble wrap holding Dylan's life together like a balloon and sending her and her mother to a side of town in an indefinite power outage filled with people she spent her entire life trying to avoid, Dylan learns that maybe the pogues and kooks aren't so different after all, and that there's more to life than just living inside a bubble.
