For as long as anyone could remember, Daphne Bhamra, Velma Dinkley, Freddie Jimenez, and Shaggy Rogers-Nakamura (and Shaggy's dog, Scooby-Doo) were the best of friends. What brought them together was a love of Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew novels and stories of ghosts and monsters that kept them intrigued (and somewhat frightened) well past their bedtimes; it's pretty much what kept them together, too.

Eventually, they became the best mystery-solving group in Coolsville — and beyond, once Freddie got their license and access to their parents' old van. Weird things always happened around their hometown, and who better to shed light on the truth than four meddling kids and their dog?

Once they reached high school, however, the adults around them grew tired of all the nonsensical supernatural obsession.

Time to grow up, their parents said. Forget all this mystery solving business and move on with your life; there are better things to occupy your time with.

The group's plan was to ignore what the adults around them advised — after all, weren't the adults always the ones causing chaos around town? But once they started to become adults themselves, the advice they had once brushed off started to make sense.

Two years pass after high school graduation, and it seems like everyone has found their own paths and moved on with their lives. Daphne joined a band; Velma started wearing contacts; Fred dyed their hair; and Shaggy became a (somewhat) famous food blogger. They'd all changed in ways the others wouldn't see too or hear about in passing.

The scariest things, it turns out, aren't ghosts or ghouls or monsters. What's much, much scarier is growing up and growing apart from childhood best friends without so much as any form of closure.

But, when Daphne, Velma, Freddie, and Shaggy are each sent letters and a decades old mystery about their college comes to light, it looks like Mystery Incorporated might live to see another day.
