Second Year

I sat on the window sill, looking down to the street of London as I waited to be called by my guardian for my departure to Diagon Alley. This would be my second year attending the marvelous school, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, though past year was quite eventful because of Harry Potter.

My name is Elizabeth Evans. Ever since I was an infant, Severus Snape had taken me under his wing. I have dark red hair that falls over my shoulder and possessed hazel for my eyes. Severus had told me I resemble a lot like my dear late mother.

"Elizabeth" I jumped slightly from his cold voice, calling from below. Quickly, I unhooked the small black leather bag, which was a gift from Severus for my birthday, and my Slytherin cloak before running down the stair to the living room where he waits.

"Here are enough galleons for you to buy your new books." He handed me the gold coins onto my cupped hands. "Run along now" He nodded his head toward the fireplace where usually my transport to Diagon Alley.

With a handful of floo powder I stepped inside the ashy furnace before announcing "Diagon Alley!" whilst throwing the powder.

In a heartbeat, I found myself in Diagon Alley with other students that had come with their parents or guardian. As I walked away, I heard a thud as something or someone had fallen. I look behind my back and saw Ronald Weasley, on the ground covered with dust and ashes.

I do not know why but something made me want to help him. I give out my hand towards him which he looked at me as if I wanted to kill him. Judging from his expression, I brushed my hands on my robe before walking away from him. Tough luck, I guess.

I am a slytherin whilst his griffindor.

I walked passed the Magical Menagerie where its exterior was full of cages of shapes and sizes before walking into Flourish and Blotts to purchase my schoolbooks. I groan in annoyance as soon as I saw the line suddenly long with witches from their teens to half a life. Quickly I climb the stairs to the second floor where I could get second handbook from the shop.

Just my luck, Draco Malfoy was there too.

"Second-handed book?" he snorted.

"Didn't know your fellow house is a poor?" I spoke, examine the book carefully, searching for the best condition. To be frank, I have enough money to buy me whole new sets of books but after the first year I thought of spending my money on my schoolbooks, Why should I waste for new books where I can buy cheaper with the old ones.

From the corner of my eyes, Draco seem annoyed from my sarcastic attitude. I gave him a fake big smile before paying the shop owner.

Again, what is it with my luck this year?

As I walked outside the bookshop, I bumped into Harry Potter. Why am I so reckless this year?

He turned around, giving me one of his apologetic smiles whilst I gave him mine. "Pardon me." I apologized, which he accepted.

"My name is Harry. Harry Potter." He introduced himself, he pulled out his hand.

"Everybody knows who you are. Elizabeth. Elizabeth Evans." I shooked his hand as I introduced myself. "Oh, hello, Granger." I spat, but my emotion still remains as I was happy as she stand beside him along with Weasley.

Granger and I had been battling who would be the smartest witch in our year. Whilst I didn't saw it as a battle as she did, I saw it more as a challenge for me to be stronger and more intelligence. Though, I was thought some by Severus and read many wizard and witches book in his little library.
