The chime of the bell to the shop clinked loudly. My eyes drifted to the young couple that drifted into the antique store. Their eyes were full of wonder at how large the store was, and their chatter filled the quiet shop.

I have worked at this store for over two years, fresh out of college working as a freelance photographer. I haven't yet been able to be hired on anywhere for what I graduated for or done too many projects yet. This is a small town that most people pass through.

We are nicknamed 'Ghost Town' by the neighboring cities, but the residents prefer the quiet, laidback feel of our city. Our town is called Morris Falls. We are on the outskirts of a major city surrounded by forest. The weather is relatively nice here.

What draws people away are the murders. There has been a string of murders that have lasted constantly for the past three decades. It gives the town a bad vibe if you know it's background but most of the townsfolk aren't stereotypical when it comes down to it. They don't scare away newcomers or blast too much on the local news station.

Well, except a few of the local cryptic that is. There is always a pack of those in every small town, I suppose. They have started producing books about the murders now, and they are sold right at our store and at the grocers.

With as irritating as that was the sweet man who runs the store I work at doesn't mind it, seeing as it does draw even more attention to our shop.

The couple stop at a display of the latest set of books and mutter amongst themselves. One of them casts their gaze over to me , and I return with a soft smile.

They frown at this and grab their partners hand, and flee the shop. That was...interesting, to say the least. I scratched the side of my shaved head. I recently felt like I needed something new, something fresh, so I shaved the sides and back of my head. I did leave some of the floors mop of curls everyone complimented me for. The haircut really did suit me, but some people said it made me look more intimidating.

I sighed and rolled up my flannel sleeves before walking to the front of the store to close up for lunch. 'Finally', I thought to myself as my stomach grumbled.

I turned the key into the door and set off for the cafe across the street. A nice cup of coffee sounded great right now. I haven't been sleeping well as of late.

I pushed the glass door open and sat myself down at a booth in the back. I came here every day on my lunch break. It was a small cafe that served really great food. The staff was all nice and it was always clean. The air in here always smelled like fresh coffee and cinnamon.

One of the waiters brought me a menu, and I ordered a latte while I decided on my lunch.

Having not slept much lately, I oversleep constantly and have to rush to work. My boss recommended that I get checked out my anxiety or to see if I had insomnia.

The waiter was brought by the latte, and I settled for a house salad and baked potato. That sounded pretty good today.

The winter nodded and went to give my ticket to the cook in the back. While sipping my latte, the door opens, and a man darts in. He immediately gave me a bad vibe.

His eyes are looking all over the place and his hair, clothing, and beard, and disheveled. He was shoeless and had cuts all over his arms and feet.

The people started whispering as one of the waiters approached him.

"S-sir, are you alright? What seems to be causing you stre-"

"It is him! He is back, I swear it! D-damn freaks all over this joint! He had blood all over him, and he had this SMILE God it was gross h-he chased me out my home. He said he would he hunt me down! What do I do? My place is down the road. Oh-" the man screeched out before being interrupted by a man wearing a brown leather jacket and glasses.

"Sir, I am a cop, though I am off duty at the moment. Would you mind taking this outside? You are disturbing the peace." the man said gently.

The distressed man scoffed and shuffled outside, leaving leaves and dirt from when he barged in the shop. The waiter sighed and went to tending the mess.

The cop turned to the people. "I am sorry for this disturbance. Please go back to your business." He said loudly and marched outside to speak to the guy.

I frowned and pushed my latte away from me. 'Down the road? Does this mean I should call the store owner and tell him there is an emergency? Some creep on the loose?' I held my head in my hands and groaned.

I fumbled in my jeans pocket and found my phone. I scrolled through my contacts and found my boss. With the flutter of attention, the guy brought the little cafegrew loud with gossip, so I stepped out to talk on the phone.

Dialing his number, I waited for him to pick up the line. One ring. Two rings. Three rings. He didn't pick up. This isn't like him at all.

"YOU DON'T GET IT! I WANT A RESTRAINING ORDER PLACED ON 'IM! HE TRIED TO KILL ME!" The guy bellowed around the corner. The cop did his best to ensure that proper action would take place.

I tried calling my boss again and skimmed the trees around the road. The air was foggy, and the clouds dark. I thought it wasn't supposed to rain today. Oh well, we are due for a rain.

As the guy kept squawking at the cop, my eyes caught on to something red in the dark forest. A figure stood there. Masculine and well over 6 foot. Black stringy hair poked out of white hood. There was blood all over the jacket the figure wore. There face was covered by the hair. My stomach dropped at the sight of this.

I dropped my phone in surprise and screamed. The cop ran over to me, followed by the guy, and I held my chest that was heaving. Whoever that person was gave me this awful feeling. I couldn't breathe. I was so scared.

"Are you alright? What happened?" The cop asked me, but all I could do was point.

The figure waved at us as we all stared in shock and terror. The guy began to shake in fear and retched. "I-it's HIM!" he screamed.

The cop whipped out a sidearm and charged at the figure who had already fled. "Someone call 911!" he yelled behind him.

'Wait, so he had no radios on him? That is dangerous!' I rushed after him as the guy slid down against the window of the cafe rocking back and forth.

"Sir, what are you doing? You shouldn't be doing this without your equipment!" I shouted after him. He didn't turn around at all. I don't even think he heard me.

He must be pretty damn brave. This must be one of the infamous killers that are on my the loose. Something just kind of zapped me into focusing on finding the cop. All reason left me as I ran, my converse slamming against the forest floor as I ran.

The figure was so fast. He was yards ahead of us, barely even visible. The cop hadn't even noticed me behind him.

Eventually police sirens were heard, and I heard the cop start to pick up pace. I slowed to a halt and breathed, trying to catch my breath. 'He would be safe now, right?'

I saw the figure turn and make a left, which headed into deep forest that no one even dared to hike through. The cop still hightailed after him before the figure stopped. I heard police radios going off like crazy and footsteps behind me.

All of a sudden, a man screamed. The cop was convulsing on the ground blood pooled around and foamed at the mouth. A large butcher knife stuck out of his chest.

The figure started to drag him off before looking back towards me and ripped off his hood.

His face was hideous. It was ghostly white, and blood smeared all over it. He greasy hair fell over light colored, piercing eyes that were extremely wide. His grin was so unnerving that I actually took a step back.

The sides of his face stretched, and I saw he had two long gashes going from his cheeks to his ears. He had scars that made his smile look huge.

I began to feel lightheaded and dropped to my knees. The leaves crunched underneath me as police shouted behind growing nearer.

The guy dropped the body and made a run for it, not before smiling at me one last time.

Everything went black.
