Before I start I feel the need to address some of the issues surrounding this aesthetic. The first being that it is very eurocentric, revolving around universities like Oxford and Cambridge as well as focusing on cities in Europe. In addition to this most of the literature is European or American and it is very difficult to find anyone within this aesthetic who is not white. That being said the key aspects of Dark Academia, learning, curiosity and a yearning for knowledge are never specific to one group of people, and there are so many fascinating things to learn about every corner of the world and it's time we started to appreciate it more.
Another problem is how Dark Academia sometimes romanticises unhealthy habits such as not sleeping, getting overly stressed about school, smoking, alcohol and drugs as well as some mental illnesses. The important thing is to remember to look after yourself and that Dark Academia can be an incredibly joyful thing to immerse yourself in, but don't get carried away and remember to look after yourself <3
