Color in College.
I am new to this foreign ground.
I have visited the soil I stand on,
But I am a stranger to it as a home.
As I notice eyes bead at me with unjust belief,
An expectation is revealed.
"This is us"
"This is your new home."
"Be like us and, in turn, we will be like you"
"Your darker skin, your free identity, will meld with ours."
However, their is only one me.
This is not my old tenement.
This is not my rich home.
I am just a visitor on these foreign floors.
You cannot take me,
Only my ancestors shall have that honor.
