THE MAN AND THE LITTLE BOY

A certain man
Who lived uptown
Always wore a frown
Wherever he went

His life was marred
By grave despair
‘Oh, life’s so unfair’
He’d say to himself

In a fortnight
He’d lost his son
His wife too was gone
And his job as well

To make the tale
So much sadder
His house caught fire
And burnt down to bits

All through the day
He sat outside
Unable to hide
His melancholy

‘Oh, what am I
Still living for
Since I’ve been made poor
Only overnight?’

He had lost all
All that mattered
Utterly shattered
Sat still for hours

Then he got up
Very slowly
Life’s brutality
He’d surely avenge

At the moment
Saw no reason
No hope for living
So he walked away

Surely this would
Be his last day
There was just one way
To follow- suicide

Just as he was
About going
Heard a voice singing
And he stopped to look

Captivated
He turned and turned
Meanwhile the voice burned
The depths of his heart

The singer was
A little boy
Creases of real joy
Stood on the boy’s face

He was crippled
And also blind
Life was so unkind
To the little boy

Yet to his God
He sang his thanks
And the man’s heart sank
As he watched the boy

Instead of being
Sad or tearful
The boy was thankful
This amazed the man

So he knelt down
Tears sharp like knife
For the gift of life
He thanked his Maker
*Moral: Always give thanks all the time, in every situation*
