Toto Noel, better known as Rio, draped himself across the couch as he feasted on doritos. He didn't realize how exhausting it would be having to be stuck in his shared apartment with the sick Sue Miley all day long. He thought Miley would be fine, but Tia Safalin disagreed. Since Safalin was stuck at her job all the time, Rio ended up having to be the one to take care of Miley. He let out an exasperated sigh

"RIIIOOOOO!!!" A certain whiny brat called out from her bedroom.

"Ugh..." Rio grumbled quietly before standing up and stomping over to Miley's bedroom, "What'dya want, you big baby!?"

Miley was lying across her bed with her cheeks a slightly unnatural red color. A wet washcloth was laid across her forehead, "I'm not a big baby, I'm sick," Rio couldn't help but roll his eyes, "and you need to fix up some stew for me."

"I'm not your maid, go get it yourself."

"I'm sick."

Rio rolled his eyes yet again, who knew, maybe if he did it enough, his eyes would get permanently stuck in the back of his head, "Oh yeah, 'cause I totally didn't hear you the first time you said that."

"Apparently not," Miley glared, "or else you would know I'm not well enough to fix the stew up myself."

"Oh no! Poor Miley is going to die, for she has caught a tiny cold! Oh boo-fucking-hoo!" Rio said in a mock whiny voice.

"Why you-" Miley was cut off by the noise of a door opening.

Rio whirled around and rushed out of the room and over to the front door, "Safalin, thank god you made it!"

Safalin let out a little yip in surprise as she closed the door, "H-hello to you too, Rio. How is Miley doing?" She then walked past Rio and headed towards Miley's room.

Rio couldn't help but sulk slightly at Safalin's neglection, "Fine, I didn't want to talk to you, either." He sighed, why did he even care so much? He would never care if it was Miley or Father giving him the cold shoulder, but for some reason it stung when it was Safalin. Rio sighed and headed to the cramped kitchen the three of them shared.

Rio surfed through the cabinet before finding a few cans of Miso soup. Not exactly stew, but close enough. He got a pot out onto the stove and placed the contents of the cans in there, before setting everything to boil. He then turned to find Safalin behind him.

"YAH!" Rio couldn't help the screech that came out of him, "Don't do that!"

"Ah, sorry," Safalin quickly apologized, "I didn't mean to startle you, I promise."

"Ugh, whatever," Rio mumbled, today was not his day. He headed over to a drawer and grabbed a bamboo spoon to stir the soup with.

Safalin noticed and gave a nervous smile, "Thanks for fixing the soup up for Miley. That's really considerate of you."

Rio could feel his cheeks warm, but he quickly shook the feeling away, "I'm just doing this to shut her up, mind you."

He could hear the girl chuckle from behind him

Rio stared at the ceiling as he lay back down on his bed. At first, he couldn't see much, but as time went on, his eyes adjusted to the dark. Rio rolled onto his belly and sighed. Taking care of Miley and basically being her personal servant all day had worn him out. The problem with Miley was that because their personalities were so similar, it made it so they either got along amazingly or got along terribly. Today happened to be the latter. Rio had to admit, he wouldn't mind taking care of Safalin if she ended up sick.

A knock sounded from the boy's door. He eyed it before faking being asleep. If Miley had come to complain about how she was sick some more, well she could suck it up to tomorrow.

Despite Rio not opening the door, he heard it creak open anyway. Yeah, privacy? Don't know them.

Soft footsteps approached Rio before stopping in front of him. The boy wanted nothing more than to open his eyes and see what was going on, but he didn't want to reveal the fact that he had been fake sleeping the entire time to whomever was standing in front of him.

Rio's breath hitched as he felt a soft hand tuck one of his stray orange hairs behind his ear. He could recognize those hands any day. Safalin.

"Thank you for your help today, Toto," Safalin spoke quietly so as to not wake up the boy who appeared to be asleep. Rio could feel his face start to heat up at the sound of his real name coming out of his dear friend's mouth, "I know it was probably exhausting. I'm proud of you." She then turned and started walking away.

I'm proud of you. Those words echoed through Rio's head. Rio had gotten adopted at a young age by Gashu Satou. He had tried his best to be perfect for his new father, but no matter how hard he tried, the man always saw Rio as a failure. Maybe it was because of his past that he had been so affected by Safalin when she had given him the cold shoulder.

Perhaps that's why he reached out and grabbed Safalin's arm before she was out of reach.

"R-Rio?!" Safalin was clearly surprised by the fact that the boy was still awake.

"Please," Rio's voice came out softer than he intended it to. He could only imagine how pink his cheeks must've been, "stay, just for a little bit."

Safalin's eyes softened slightly as she turned and crawled into the bed, tucking herself close to the boy.

"Thanks," Rio whispered, his eyes drifting closed.

Safalin pet the boy's head, combing through his messy hair, "Of course."

Neither of the two seemed to realize how red the other's cheeks were.
