I used to see my parents be happy and sweet when I was a child. In my teen years, I hear them shouting at one another. Yet, when I show my presence, they smile at me, and I see their annoyance with one another by their fists.
"I have a date Mommy, you'll meet him later." She smiled. "What's his name?"
"Monty Polo," Daddy laughed. "Hindi na lang naging Marco Polo?" I know he's being humorous but Mom and I didn't laugh.
"Anyway, see you guys later?" Mommy nodded and Daddy pouted. "Okay, I'll be present."
I nodded back and went on my way. I just finished high school and now, I'm on break from academics, haven't really figured out what I am gonna study or learn as a profession/career.
My parents are both in the medical field, so I aspire to be just like them. Though, that changed when I saw them fighting. "Do you know how long I was at work?! And now, you want me to what?" Mom shouted at Dad. "It's just for the mean time, why can't you go with me?"
"Aherm!" I made my presence known. "Hi sweetie! Wanna eat?" I shook my head and excused myself. "Later Mom." I both embraced them. At first, I thought, it was normal to fight when you're married. But their fights seems to be abnormal.
"Paano mo naman nasabi, Zoya?" si Ate Kari, anak ni Mistress, a friend of my parents. "Kasi diba, kung normal yung away nila, they might do it, in front of their child." She listened more.
"Tapos yung kanila, nagsisimula lang kapagka wala ako and mahuhuli ko pa." I pouted and buried my face in my pillow.
We are currently at my room, chillaxing. "Baka naman, ayaw lang nila ikaw malungkot or ma-upset na nag-aaway sila. Yung parents ko nga, hanggang asaran lang sila, minsan, nagtataka na ako na masyado naman sila into one another." I kinda envy Ate Kari, "Ate naman eh, syempre yung love story nila, simula't sapul, unexpected yet very cliched."
She smiled, "Yeah, high school, schoolmates hanggang sa magkita sila nang mag-birthday si Mader." Tumayo siya sa pagkakaupo, sa aking kama. I was in a lotus sitting form while hugging my pillow. "And they unexpectedly conceived me, then married when I was six months in Mom's tummy, and the rest is history!" I chuckled, "Ate naman eh, comedy mo talaga." She pinched my cheeks. "Naisip mo na ba ang kukunin mong course?"
That made me frown. "It's either veterinary school or just being a bum for the rest of my days."
She patted and rubbed my head, "Support kita whatever!" We laughed until Mom called us for merienda.
Nang makababa na kami from my room, may dalawa pa palang sumunod kay Ate. "Arky, Kuya AJ?" She embraced them and pinched each of their ears. "Diba sabi ko, wag kayong susunod?"
"Haba talaga ng hair mo Karicha!" Again, I am envious. So, dinadaan ko na lang sa biro.
"Naleleft out si Baby Zoya, ligawan mo kaya, Kuya AJ?" I looked at him and he just smiled.
"Magpapari ako." Natawa naman ako. "Asa, Kuya AJ, ikaw?" Hindi naman siya playboy si Kuya, pero daming chicks na lumalapit and he's just being kind and polite to them.
"Hindi ko maliligawan si Zoya, Auntie Cutie, kasi may fling na yata yan eh." I bit my lips and almost forgot na parating na yung 'date' ko.
"Kilala niyo ba?" The three shook their heads. "Dad, lahat kayo mamaya-maya niyo na makikilala." They all looked at me with concerned looks.
"Baby Zoya, nasaan na ba yun?" And as if on cue, may nag-doorbell.
