As surprised as you were to see your old high school crush on TV that night, not to mention him giving a report at a prominent news station, you still had to put things in perspective. The alien invasion for example, likely should be at the forefront of your mind...
Unfortunately aliens have been on your mind a lot recently. The past two years in fact. No, you weren't crazy or obsessive... but your boyfriend was.
"Listen! Y/N, see what they're saying?!" He cried excitedly that evening, after having turned all the screens onto the news channel.
"It's true! We really aren't the only ones in the universe... doesn't it make you want to cry?"
You blinked at the man. Oh, Key... you thought; there are a lot of things that make me want to cry, and you being a UFO fanatic is at the top of the list-
"I've got to call Woodz, he's going to absolutely flip!"
As your boyfriend wandered off to call his best friend and fellow alien-lover, you went back to mindlessly watching the news reel. It was live-footage of what was happening just a few miles away from you in Seoul. A huge storm cloud had appeared about twenty four hours ago and then began to morph into the biggest airship anyone had ever seen. It blanketed nearly the whole city, having technology and apparent sentient life unlike anything on Earth.
The reporter, the man you'd once made-out with after junior prom under the bleachers, was giving his two-cents on the situation...
"Attention, citizens of South Korea! The government has instructed you to stay in your homes during this time, until further notice a curfew has been implemented while officials begin to ascertain the origins of this-"
You watched as the screen went a bit staticky for a few seconds, then you heard your boyfriend in the other room screaming.
"It's starting! Y/N, the negotiations have begun! Did you turn the TV off?!"
For all his technological savvy, the man really was just a hippie turned activist turned sci-fi nerd, who'd somehow made friends with a group of UFO model makers in college. The rest was history...
Key smacked the television a few times, muttering under his breath, and then Jiung- the high school crush- said something about first contact and the screen changed to what appeared to be the current view of the cloud, or spaceship, or whatever it was.
"Oh my god! Look at that, it's beautiful!"
Key began tearing up as he stroked the screen. You rolled your eyes, but both of you watched as a young man that you've definitely seen before but can't remember where, stood on the roof of a tall building, probably as close to the cloud as you could get. With determination, his voice rang out from a few speakers they'd placed beside him.
"Greetings, strangers! My name is Choi Soobin, and I am here to represent Earth! Why have you come here?!"
The name rang a bell but before you could think about it more, the doorbell rang and Key jumped up to go answer it. You knew who it would be. You also knew that there was no way in hell you were going to stay here while your boyfriend was likely going to be up all night chattering in the living room with his incredibly unfairly attractive but equally as irritating friend about the aliens.
About to slide your phone out to text your co-worker, hoping beyond all hope that he would be willing to let you stay for a few days, you suddenly heard your boyfriend and his best friend enter the room.
"Hi Y/N! How are- oh my god!! They're already doing first contact?! I missed it?"
Woodz and Key both plopped down on the rug in front of the TV, mostly blocking your view, but what did you care? There was some sort of blue light coming from the spaceship near where Choi Soobin was standing. You vaguely thought you caught sight of a humanoid shape emerging from the glow, but before you could look closer, Key and Woodz began squealing like pigs, commenting on everything and obscuring the screen entirely. Fine by you...
Y/N: i'm going crazy, can i stay over for a bit?
New: OMG hun yessss is the bf happy tho? LOL i can imagine
Y/N: too happy... genuinely questioning my life choices rt now
New: my couch is your couch also BTW bring booze, my roommate is sorta an alcoholic
You smiled. Count on your work bestie to save the day. New had definitely been quiet when he'd first started at the company, but that was the biggest facade. The man was an absolute angel, the life of the party, the one who always remembered your birthday and knew exactly when you needed to be sent chocolate cookies by mail.
If he wasn't gay as hell, you'd maybe consiter asking him out... once you got up the nerve to leave Key. The man in question was pretty much holding his tin foil hat in his hand now in awe so to speak, apparently the first alien contact was going well?
"I'm gonna sleep over at a friend's tonight," you said, knowing even if the two of them were listening they wouldn't care.
As you packed a few things and stepped out the door, you sighed...
That's the last time I get involved with someone who's only emotionally available to aliens!!
