I was running to school because I was late. When I got there I snuck in so the teacher wouldn't see me being late again
I sat down with my two best friends. Mal and Evie the best part of my life. You see my parents aren't mates but somehow they got me.
They are constantly fighting about everything. I'm turning 18 in two years and it's the same night the annual ball is held.
I can't wait to meet my mate. He can take me away from all the fighting and hatred
"You late," Mal said
"I know I overslept," I said
"Elizabeth mind explaining why you're late?" Campbell our teacher asked
"Sorry, Mr. Campbell I overslept," I said
"Again this is the twelfth time you used that excuse," he said
"And before that, I had others so just stop asking," I said not caring
I was late up last night because my parents are fighting and I couldn't sleep and unfortunately they started including me in that fight.
Sometimes the fights go so far that I get hurt because my dad or mother hits me and blames me for everything
"Elizabeth it means detention. Why can't you just be on time?" He said
"Ask my parents," I muttered but of course, everyone heard
"That's a good thing I'll give them a call," he said and my eyes went wide and my face paled
'Great why don't you get us killed!' My wolf growled
After classes, we went to lunch but I only grabbed a banana from Mal before heading to lunch detention
When I got into the class Mr. Campbell just shook his head. I went to sit in the back and started drawing until a guy came in
"Beta Dean, what brings you here today?" Mr. Campbell asked
"Is that her?" Beta Dean asked and pointed a finger at me
I was still drawing and could see him and another guy coming toward me. When they sat down I looked up and looked back down
"Elizabeth right?" Gemma asked
"Yes Gemma," I said
"Call me Kia and this is Beta Dean. Do you know why we are here?" He asked
I shook my head and he came to touch me but I flinch away. They looked at each other and he moved back
"Why did you flinch? Is someone at home abusing you?" Beta Dean asked
"No," I said a bit too fast.
"Elizabeth, don't lie to us we're here to help you. Your teachers have been concerned about you. You come late to school and you had a bruise last week when you came in. Talk to us and tell us the truth," Gemma Kia said
"I oversleep it's a habit. No one hurts me and the bruise I had was because I fight a lot with other wolves," I said lying of course
"We can't help you if you keep lying girl," Beta said
"I'm not," I said
"Well, then you'll come live in the packhouse. One room is already set up for you. I'll wake you up early and you'll go to training and then school. If you fight with wolves a lot it means you at least know how to fight," Gemma said and I snapped my head up and looked at him
"Your serious?" I asked not moving my eyes from his
"No, he wasn't. You smell like fear. Your eyes are widened and your whole body is shivering. Tell us now what is wrong before we take you to the Alpha," Beta said
"The Alpha is busy with other pack business he doesn't care about others around here and he won't care about me. I'm late for a class excuse me," I said not thinking
"She has the guts to call the Alpha careless," Gemma said as I walked out
"She's Emily and Corey's kid right?" Beta asked
"Yes, they live outside of the town by a farm. The three of them are alone there. Corey is one of the best warriors and Emily is a great trainer for the kids who are transforming for the first time.
They came here about 3 years ago. Everyone thinks they're great but every time a parent is brought up in class or it's parents' day she avoids it or just doesn't come to school.
She always comes up with excuses before she told us she overslept she said she had no ride to school or the dog didn't want her to leave," Mr. Campbell said
I quickly made my way to the forest in the back and went to the waterfall nearby skipping school.
I was skipping rocks when I felt someone behind me making me jump.
"Dammit, Evie!" I yelled
"Sorry forgot you are still not used to my hybrid side," she said and sat down
"Why are you skipping?" I asked
"Why are you hiding?" She asked
I sigh and sat down next to her. I pulled up my sleeve and she gasp looking at the wounds
"What happened?" She asked
"Silver chains dipped in wolfsbane and vervain," I said and looked down before saying, "I wasn't late because I overslept it was because my father had me chained up in our basement,"
"Fuck Beth you got to tell someone," she said and used her magic to heal my wounds
"Who will believe me my father is a warrior and my mother helps out pups who are transforming," I said and she just hugged me
After a while, I told her everything even about calling our Alpha careless and lying to our Beta and Gemma
She started laughing at that but then turned serious
"They're looking for you," she said
"What?" I asked just as a voice came into my head
'Elizabeth I know you're still near the school I want to talk further and since you're not in class we can' I heard out Beta's voice
"Well I'm fucked," I said
"Come on. I know a passage that would take us to my house you and I can stay there for a while," she said
"Thanks," I said and hugged her
We went in behind the waterfall and Evie used her magic to light the way out.
When we got to her house her parents gave us a speech about skipping before her mother gave us something to eat.
After we eat I went home but when I got there the Beta was waiting for me with my dad
