Surrounded by nothing but poverty and destitution, Madge's affluence made her stick out like a sore thumb. It was this such privilege that caused Gale to loathe her almost entirely. However, to Katniss the mayor's daughter had always been a companion, and loneliness always tended to lead one to seek shelter in the most unlikely of places.
When Madge finds Gale on the brink of detonation, it appears the two have much more in common than they had once thought. As the games continue, and the two find their feelings for one another beginning to blossom, it becomes increasingly clear that such feelings always have a way of coming to the surface. But with Katniss rising to victory, and her return fast approaching, Madge finds herself only falling victim to the hands of Gale's confusion.
Were his feelings temporary, or did his heart actually lie with the wrong girl with the pin, after all?
In the end, the only way to find out would be to wait until the end of July.

AUTHOR'S NOTE ────────────long time no new book, so it needed to happen. anyway, hello hello - I am a gadge stan. are there still gadge stans in 2022??? this is very 2012 of me, I haven't heard anything about gadge in literally like a decade considering madge is made completely non-existent in the films, BUT, I have always always shipped gale and madge and I have finally decided to act on it.
I think that madge is a very underrated character, while gale is totally misunderstood and overly-hated by many, and I really think showing the relationship between him and madge rather than having him constantly hyper-focused on katniss would counteract some of that yuck that makes people hate him so much! I really want to nuance his character a little bit and I think madge totally balances him out in a similar way to how peeta balances katniss. plus, I find it really sad how gale's story pans out to be honest, and while I do not ship him with katniss (everlark for life) or condone all of his actions (prim for life), I do think he deserved a little less shit.
so, this is almost definitely going to be a series. I'm by no means promising to write it very quickly, but this is going to be set primarily during the first book, and so there'll almost definitely be a sequel that takes place during catching fire!
anyway, I hope you like this concept. I know it isn't massively original (obviously gadge has been written before), but I really want to put my take on it so I hope you guys enjoy it!
