The light falls on Shadow's skin; the warmth is uncomfortable but not unwelcome. It wasn't without hardships—lives were lost—but the day was saved.

Literally.

The wind whispers the light-starved cheers; it's music to Shadow's ears.

Emerald eyes meet with scarlet, then dart away. Those eyes were once energetic, bright, despite the gloom of the caverns.

Now, they were devoid of light.

Shadow's calloused hand caresses Sonic's cobalt fur, and he freezes. Shadow pulls away not long after.

"You've given everyone else here a second chance," Shadow says.

The sun overhead watches this clumsy courtship, amused.

"Why not yourself?"
