Gearlink's SFP-GE-BX SFP transceiver is Small Form Factor Pluggable Multi-Sourcing Agreement compatible (MSA). The transceiver is divided into five sections: the LD driver, the limiting amplifier, the digital diagnostic monitor, the 1310nm FP laser (the 1550nm DFB laser), and the PIN/TIA. The module data link extends up to 10km in 9/125um single-mode fiber.

This transceiver conforms to the industry-standard Small Form Pluggable (SFP) package by incorporating an LC-Bi-directional optical interface connector. The transceiver now includes an improved Digital Diagnostic Monitoring Interface that is SFF-8472 compliant. It provides real-time access to transceiver operating parameters such as transceiver temperature, laser bias current, transmitted optical power, received optical power, and transceiver supply voltage by reading a built-in memory via an I²C interface.

Tx Disable has an LVTTL logic high-level input that can disable the optical output, and the system can also disable the module through I2C. The Tx Fault is supplied to signal laser deterioration. The LOS output is used to show the loss of an optical signal input to the receiver or the state of the link with the partner. I²C register access can also be used to obtain LOS (or Link)/Disable/Fault information for the system.
