Maeve Mayfield knew something was wrong with Hawkins as soon as her family moved there. Although moving from a progressive state to the Midwest can make you feel that way, she felt there was something more.
Feeling alone and out of place, she finally finds home with the freaks and fiends at her job in Starcourt Mall. Shilling music to the masses, if her outlandish punk style and attitude didn't make her enough of a social pariah, her crush on ice cream scooping Robin Buckley would. Though Maeve feels like she's finally found her place in Hawkins, with the small group of likeminded people she could find.
Until one night when she was staying late stocking shelves, Maeve picks up a hidden Russian transmission on her radio. She's suddenly thrust into the world of the upside down, Demogorgons, a teenage girl with superpowers, and an inter-dimensional being that hijacked her stepbrother's mind.
And when that being threatens her sister and her friends, as well as the fate of mankind, Maeve has no choice but to step in.
