Ottilie van der Hoeven crafts her own fate.
She gets things done alone—few people have much to offer her anyway.
Although she is vexed that she had an entire world of magic hidden from her for eleven years, she has taken things into her own hands. Hogwarts professors have a nettlesome habit of keeping her in the dark, but she has methods to see beyond their smoke and mirrors. She's on a mission to learn all that's worth knowing about this mysterious force of magic and the ways its power can be harnessed. She doesn't need anyone's help.
She prefers keeping to herself, anyway—a wish that her classmates are more than happy to grant her (the two Hufflepuff boys who refuse to get the hint notwithstanding).
She insists it's best this way. Subscribing to the tenets of self-sufficiency and autonomy makes her life easier. After all, the only person she knows she can trust entirely is herself.
So, never, not in a million years and a thousand alternate universes, would she have ever chosen to put her trust in an obnoxious, reckless, loud Gryffindor named George Weasley.
Unfortunately, after he discovers a secret that Ottilie had been planning on taking to her grave, she might have to do just that. In exchange, he asks her to help him and his equally annoying twin with their plans to open up a joke shop.
She doesn't like it, she doesn't like them, but what other option does she have?

a few notes:
1 ━ the oc can be an asshole. there will be character development.
2 ━ the first part of the book focuses almost entirely on ottilie learning about the wizarding world. there are small interactions between her and george, but it will take a while before they really start to spend time with each other. and, yes, even after they really start to get to know one another, it will be a slow burn relationship.
