Note: Hi! I couldn't  sleep so I had an idea. I thought about doing some adaptations/fics inspired by movies/series/books. The first one I decided to do is 10 Things I Hate About You (my favourite movie) - The Wilds version. I am also thinking about doing some original fics and stories.

English is not my mother tongue, so if there's any typos, please let me know. I also have the same book in portuguese, my mother language.

I'm also in Spirit Fanfic (@Nene_mendes03).

I hope you enjoy this story as much as i'm enjoying writing it!!

Chapter One

The sun was already coming through the poorly closed curtain when the obnoxious alarm rang. For a moment, the girl thought about turning it off and staying in bed for the rest of the day. Unfortunately, her plans were jeopardized by her mother's loud voice coming from downstairs.

"Leah, honey, breakfast's ready!"

With growl, the blue-eyed girl got up and went to the bathroom, dragging her feet. Leah looked at her reflection for a minute and realized how unpleased it was. Dark circles under her eyes and a disheveled hair made her look like she was partying all night when indeed she was overthinking her first day at the new school.

She was still trying to get used to the city, how could she be ready to deal with a new school with unknown – and probably annoying – teens?

Already in the kitchen, she sat across her mother while her father was nowhere to be seen.

"Where's dad?" she asked, her voice coming a littler bit huskier than the usual.

"He left early to work." Her mom answered, more interested in her eggs.

Since they moved, most mornings were just like that. Her father left early, her mother couldn't care less, and she was pretending she didn't notice the change of behavior. The three of them used to be so close and now it felt like an invisible wall was between them.

Finishing her juice, Leah grabbed her backpack and car keys and headed for the door.

"I'm going, mom. I still have to meet with the principal and I'm pretty sure some audiovisual geek is waiting for me to show me around." the enthusiasm in her voice was below zero.

"Honey, you're one of the audiovisual geeks if you don't remember." Maryann joked.

"That's why I know it's gonna suck. Anyway, bye, mom."

She left the house with wishes of good luck from her mother and entered her old but loved car. The way to school was faster than she was expecting.

While she was walking through the halls, she could feel some eyes on her. Is that how those rom-com main characters felt during those prom scenes? Quite uncomfortable.

Finally, she was inside of the principal office. A middle-aged woman was quickly typing on her computer, ignoring her completely.

Leah cleared her throat awkwardly and – did I hear a hallelujah, brothers? – the woman looked at her over her glasses.

"Leah Rilke, am I right?" Miss Klein, the principal, finally asked.

"Yes, ma'am."

The principal looked at her file and then again at her.

"An emergency transfer in the middle of the semester. Did you kidnap someone?"

"What? No!" Leah almost scream. Was this woman alright? Why was that her first thought?
