This is a summary and review of the first novel of the series about the forensic agent Dexter, who also happens to have a secret hobby of murdering people. It was released in 2003.

In this first novel of the series, we are introduced to main character Dexter, a forensics analyst who does blood spatter, is secretly a murderer and is also the narrator of the book. But waht makes him so special is that Dexter only kills people who have done bad deeds, not normal people who haven't done anything wrong. The protagonist has these tendencies and committs these actions because he was left traumatized as a little child, when his mother was killed. But he was luckily adopted in a loving home. He was guided by his foster cop father Harry, who taught him how to control his dark tendencies, and Dexter is also guided by his one and only Dark Passenger, which helps him out in cases. So in the plot of the novel, a killing starts in the city of Miami, where the killer leaves bodies lying around. Dexter has to find this guy and solve the crime, only to discover that the one responsible is his own lost brother, where both of them look very much alike and have the same tendencies.

I think this first novel of the series is quite entertaining and amusing, well written and always with Dexter's special charm, sardonic and amusing character, which makes the narration much lighter and enjoyable. I would highlight the story, plot and humorous narration. I definitely recommend it to people and readers who like crime novels, and to those who like and enjoy these types and Dexter's novels.
