~ Synopsis ~

Rhaenys Targaryen loved her husband, she loved Corlys Velaryon and the life he had given her. But as time passed in their marriage and Corlys went off to war in the stepstones, the woman grew lonely. She sought comfort in a rugged lord who had extended his trip to driftmark selling lace and silk from his homeland of volantis, a lord who would return home without knowing what he had left behind.

Corlys was surprised to find his wife pregnant when he returned to driftmark for a short while, but nevertheless he understood how it came to be because he himself had not been faithful during his time away. So he vowed to support Rhaenys and the child she was carrying, even if that angered the like of his own brother.

When the baby was born Rhaenys named her after her own mother, Jocelyn, Jocelyn Velaryon. It was clear that she was not Corlys' child, her thick black hair and her snow like skin, but the man did not care for she was healthy and made Rhaenys happy. Once the war in the stepstones had been won, and Corlys had spent some time getting to know the babe he made his plan.

Although himself and the King were not seeing eye to eye, he knew that if Jocelyn were to grow up spoken about in foul ways by the people of the realm he would never forgive himself. So the family set off for kingslanding, Rhaenys atop her she-dragon Meleys and Jocelyn safely in Corlys' arms on his fastest ship.

The couple presented the King with the baby and he was overjoyed for his cousin, Viserys agreed that the child should be claimed in a public manner. The very next day Corlys and Rhaenys took the matter to court, Corlys holding Jocelyn out at the base of the iron throne as he claimed her as his own, Jocelyn Velaryon was his daughter and he wanted everyone to know it.
