We sat on the yellow-orange leaves, as Ryan silently cried into my shoulder. "He cheated on me, Bren." He wiped his tears from his honey eyes with the sweater I gave him when I saw him freezing here. He always came to me for comfort, we were best friends after all. It was the middle of the night, and he called me and said he needed me.
We looked out for each other. I knew that guy he was with wasn't for him, but he told me he loved him. I wanted him to be happy. Of course I was right. Now here we are.
We looked up at the stars, admiring them from afar. He placed his head on my chest, sniffling and rubbing his eyes. All I wanted was for his pain to go away. Seeing him upset like this made my heart break.
His heavy breathing slowed, and soon enough, he had fallen asleep. His cold breaths blew away in the nighttime breeze.
And in this moment, it was clear. I had fallen in love with this boy.
