Apo ran towards the first clearing. He wanted to go home. He had been in this maze for so long and he missed Owen so much. Apo wondered if Owen would still be mad at him for lying or pulling the lever. Apo shook the thought away and dodged a tripwire. He ran through the vines and into the stone area. Apo averted his eyes from the levers, bad memories coming back to him. He finally got to the door and ran through. The doors shut behind him. Apo looked around, wondering if Owen would be by the maze. When he didn't see Owen, Apo ran to his house. No one answered when he knocked on the door. Apo returned to the area by the maze and called out,

"Hello? Is anyone there?" Many confused replies came.

"Hello?" Most of the clearing members came from the campfire.

"Apo?" Graecie asked, staring at him. "You're alive!" This prompted everyone to swarm him, question after question being asked.

     "What happened?"

     "How did you survive?"

"Would you like some food?" Apo was completely overwhelmed.

"Let's give him some space!" Someone called out and they all retreated slightly. Apo scanned the faces but still didn't see Owen.

"Where's Owen?" He asked. Everyone found somewhere else to look. "Why isn't anyone responding?" Apo asked agin, concerned. Mowhee came up and pulled him aside. Mowhee sat down and Apo followed his lead.

"He's gone, Apo," Mowhee's voice cracked.

"What do you mean gone?" Apo's hand trembled.

"Dead." Apo's worst fear was comfirmed. His best friend, the one have had lied to, the one who was always protecting him, gone? Apo began to cry, he cried hard. Mowhee reached towards him. Before he could Apo asked,

     "How?"

(Mowhee narration, past)

"We had gone into the maze twice, overnight. To kill the griever. Both times we had thought we could handle it. The first time Owen's arrows just bounced off and swords did nothing, so we ran. Owen got scratched but said he was fine. This is how we found out what griever venom could do. He was dying for months, but eventually got better. He thought we shouldn't go back, but Magic had some kind of powerful gun. We all thought it would work. Magic and Owen insisted that Magic shoot it, I don't know why. So we went in."

(Past, Owen's POV)

Maybe it could work, maybe we could kill it. I didn't want anyone to get hurt like I did though. But if we kill it, we could save everyone. Magic refused to give up the gun. I know why. It was Ash's. So she got to shoot it. I was at the front with Mowhee, Kyle, Squidney, and Magic behind me. We turn to its den. Magic walks out and lines up her shoot. SHE MISSES! But luckily the griever didn't notice. Magic aims again and hits it this time. I don't see much damage. My heart sinks. The griever runs at Magic, but she freezes. We all yell and scream, but nothing helps. Right before it reaches her, I see an opportunity. Before I can change my mind, I jump out of hiding. Right before the griever strikes her, I tackle her to the ground. Magic snaps out of her trance and we start running, the others running as well. We are at the back of the group. The griever roars as we try to lose it, turning corner after corner. It is gaining on us. I realize that if it doesn't have a distraction soon, we will all get eaten. It will catch us. So I make the decision to be the distraction. I shove Magic ahead of me and turn around. As I face the griever, I draw my sword. Magic turns around and stops running. She calls my name, telling me to run. I tell her to go. She refuses, saying she won't leave me. I beg her to leave. I'm not losing another one. I turn and stare at her, trying to get the message across. She hesitates and the screams my name. I turn and see the griever strike. I'm clumsy to dodge. The others turn around as they hear the commotion. I temporarily fall as my vision clouds. When it returns, I see Kyle, Squidney, and Mowhee all running back, swords in hand. Magic tries to grapple with it and help me. I block a strike she didn't see and tell her to go. I tell her that it's my choice,  and it will be for nothing if they die with me. She cries, looking at me. I stare her in the eye,

     "Please, Magic."

(Present, Mowhee talking)

"Owen said something and Magic suddenly turned and ran, pulling us along. Nobody wanted to, not even Magic. She said it's what Owen wanted. With a guilty glance back, I see Owen stagger to the side. He is holding his own pretty well, but it's a griever. He makes a mistake and it costs him. I will him to win but, that didn't happen. So we made it back, but Owen..." Mowhee breaks off the rest of his sentence, staring at the ground. Apo's tears continuously fall down his face. Standing up he shouts,

"You're wrong! You have to be! Owen's strong, he would have won!" Apo runs off before Mowhee can answer. He runs far, not caring where he ends up. Falling to his knees, Apo punch's the ground, hard. Hot tears flow down his face. Rasbi sees him and catches up to him.

"Mowhee told you?" She asks softly. Apo nods, not trusting his voice. Rasbi's eyes water,

"I- I know how you feel. I didn't believe it either." She hugs Apo. Apo sees the others run up to them, but he doesn't care. He cries and cries, his grief flowing out of him. When his tears finally slow he looks up.

"Thanks, for everything," He says to Rasbi.

"Fruit Trio to the end?" She asks, handing him an apple. Apo accepts the apple,

    "Fruit Trio to the end."
